Join us on the Journey!
After seven weeks of language school in Guatemala, we are finally headed to Colombia on Tuesday (10/20). We have been working hard to learn/clean up our Spanish, and now we are ready to really try it out.
We will begin in Barranquilla, on the Caribbean Coast about midway between Panama and Venezuela. The quick taste of fall in Chicago we have had as we pick up our bags has been a treat. We are really going to miss the beautiful leaves and the crisp weather, but we can't say we'll cry in February as we keep wearing sandals and sunglasses with nary a snow shovel in sight.
We have been given a two year religious visa in order to work with the Presbyterian Church of Colombia (IPC) as pastoral accompaniers which will include working with displaced people as well as staying in touch with you all state-side to let you know what we are learning and how you can stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the IPC. We will know more about what this work entails as we settle in, so we will keep you posted.
Though we will send out these email updates each month(ish), we will update our blog more regularly so please keep an eye on www.calledtocolombia.org. We appreciate your support, and start saving up for a visit!
Peace~
Mamie and Richard

Prayer Requests:
* Thanks for the gift of mission personnel in Guatemala who welcomed us during our stay. We are blessed to be part of a worldwide community.
* Hallelujah for a smooth visa process with many thanks to the staff of
PC(USA) and the IPC for their work in gathering the necessary materials.
* Many thanks to the 3rd graders at First United Church of Oak Park who pray for us each Sunday along with their church school leaders.
* Traveling mercies as we finally get to Colombia. We certainly hope to
arrive safely, but we also hope we didn't leave something crucial out
of the five bags we are taking with us for the next three years...
Que Dios les bendiga (may God bless you all),
Mamie and Richard
