Friends~

Greetings in this Easter season, when we are reminded again and again that God´s work continues in new ways all around us.

We wanted to write to you specifically as a supporter of our mission and ministry here in Colombia as Mission Co-Workers of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  We know that this support comes in many ways - through prayer and concern, through financial donations, and through advocacy and moral support.  We are deeply grateful for all of the ways that you and the congregations you are a part of take a part in our work with the Colombian Presbyterian Church (IPC).

Through the wonders of technology we are interested in finding ways to share the wonders of God´s mission.  We believe that we work together in a partnership, a relationship where both of our churches are nourished, challenged, and equipped for further service.  We have brainstormed a list of ways in which we can possibly further the partnership between your congregation and our work here.  Of course, we are all learning, so we invite you to brainstorm as well and think through ways that we might draw closer ties to your congregation and please share them with us.

This past weekend (April 18-19) were the Days of Prayer and Action for Colombia.  To mark these days many of you may have participated whether through prayer, in "Face the Displaced" gatherings as part of the Witness for Peace campaign, or in other ways in which you showed your solidarity with the people of Colombia.  We thank you.
We want to share with you a prayer written by a group of displaced people.  You are welcome to use it in your worship services or personal prayer.  If you would like further resources you can find them at the Mennonite Central Committee and Witness for Peace websites.

Prayer from a group of
displaced people in Colombia:

All: Merciful God, today with immense pain and even with terror we recall the day in which we were displaced from our lands.  God of consolation, even today, with tears in our eyes, we remember our family and friends who were not able to escape the arms of those who displaced us and did not make it out alive.

With this pain in our heart and with tears still in our eyes, we give you thanks, O God, for allowing us our lives.  We thank you because you sent your angel who warned us of the arrival of those who displaced us, even though we are still not able to understand why He was not able to escape those assassins.  Thank you God for our lives and for the strength to continue fighting for the land we live on now, and which we hope with your help will soon become our own.

God of love, today we ask you for dignified employment in order to have food, housing, and health, and in order to continue moving forward with our sons and daughters.  Creator God, we ask your justice so that we might return to our land and begin to cultivate it with every type of herb, fruit, and tree and enjoy them.  God of hope, we ask of you peace, tha tthere be no more spending on weapons and that we may grow in the solidarity that permits us as people to live in complete joy.  Amen.
