"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day."

Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Best of 2011
So many to choose from, and this was not an easy decision but we narrowed it down to two.

Come Sunday Morning: We picked Terry's book because it's been a while since we ready a book with so much controversy and well written plot.  The characters were well developed, the plot a page turner, It left you with a sense of wanting more
, and that is exactly what you want in a book.

Thirteen Reasons Why: We've never seen a plot like this before.  Another page turner, you wanted to skip to the end to "hear" the last name but you were afraid you would miss someone if you did.

We would definitely recommend both to readers.

What do you think you think of our choices?  Was there a book you felt should have made the list?  email us at judith@readerslane.net.

This message will be our 2012 message for the year!

Each month, we will dedicate this section on ways to help all of us be our true selves.

Let's replace the phrase "New Year's resolution" with "New Beginning."  Whether it's the beginning of a new project, a new job, a new home, or simply a new you, LET'S GO!!!

Grilled Tilapia w/mango salsa & spinach with sauteed mushrooms!
  • fresh tilapia fillets
  • 2 mangoes
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 small roma tomatoes
  • 1 can pineapple
  • 1 bottle of banana pepper slices
  • 8 oz of sliced mushrooms
  • 8 oz of spinach

started off by chopping up all the mango ingredients by hand and adding a splash of orange juice

Next, I put the tilapia on a pan, brushed it with olive oil and rubbed it with sea salt and black pepper. I put the tilapia in the oven at 450 for 5 minutes

While the tilapia is cooking, I coated a pan with olive oil and garlic salt, and tossed in the mushrooms.

After five minutes have passed, I opened the oven door and spooned large amounts of the salsa on top of each of the fillets. I closed oven back up and set it to broil for another four minutes. I now added the spinach to the mushrooms, and sauteed for another two minutes, until the spinach and the mushrooms were soft.

DONE!

News Buzz!

It's hard to ignore the move towards Androids, ipads, Nooks, and Apps.  So we did the leg work for you, here's a list of some of the best reading apps out there:

Nook App (Barnes & Nobles)

Mybookdroid:
log and organize your book collection. While you can manually “create” a book by typing in the title or searching for it, the real beauty of this app comes from the ability to quickly either scan or type the ISBN number into the app and add it to your own library in just a click or two.

BooksApp: The app will quickly search for the title and information from the ISBN number and display all of the information on the screen.  Another good app, if you are more interested in getting very detailed information about books, is BooksApp. This app is great as a personal book research tool. You can walk through any bookstore or library, and when you spot a title, just open up the app and click on the top “Scan barcode” button
