Obesity... How Does Your State Rank? 

Dear Readers,

It’s finally warming up ...Yeah!!! 

I long to feel the Sun on my face; not to mention the instant boost of energy that a bright, sunny day brings. With Memorial Day just around the corner, marking the "unofficial" start of the Summer, I imagine that many of you share my feelings and are ramping-up your workouts and making changes to your diets, to embrace the Summer with leaner bodies. Bring on the Sun!

In this issue of GayleFORCE Fitness, I discuss the nations current Obesity statistics.  Sadly, Obesity in the USA has risen to epidemic levels with no indication that the numbers will reduce at any time in the near future.  Unfortunately, Obesity brings with it the potential for a myriad of chronic physical and mental illnesses, which often makes fighting Obesity more difficult.  Check out the Stats & Facts segment to see how your State is fairing, and for suggestions on how to tackle this often debilitating condition. 

Summer is almost here but it's not too late to make changes to your workouts and meals, to see and feel a difference during the warm-weather months. Obesity Report... Colorado Stays Lean! 

A Debilitating Condition with Financial Consequences

Sadly, even with the abundance of health and wellness information available to the public, the latest stats indicate that Obesity levels in America continue to rise.

Calorie Lab’s "2010 State-by-State Rankings" breaks down the numbers and provides statistics on just how much Obesity increased in 2010.  Colorado continues to rank as the leanest state while Mississippi remains the fattest for the 5th year in a row. Read more...

Medicine Ball Exercise

PARTNER DRILL - Sit-Up / Ball Toss

General Guidelines

  1. Lie on back holding a 3 kg* ball pound ball beyond head.
  2. Interlock ankles. Perform a sit-up and toss ball.
    Partner performs sit-up and tosses ball back.
  3. Repeat 12-15 times (each) per set. Rest 30-seconds after set.
  4. Do 4-sets per session.

* 3 kg is considered a good general purpose ball.

Suggestion
Why not consider this exercise when you're outside at the park with friends?  You could pair-up, do 2-sets; take a 30-second break;  switch partners and repeat. Have fun while getting a quick abdominal workout. ~SG.
