Hi Everyone,
I am heartbroken to tell everyone that we have to cancel S3 Ultra.
The forecast is bad but we just found out in the last hour that there is around 75cm of snow in the higher area of the course. Even the lower areas have 30 to 60cm. The flagging crew cannot get through to complete the course preparations. The backroads will be impassable to most volunteers, so that means no aid stations, and SAR response will be almost impossible.
Sending people into thigh-deep snow, in remote backcountry, in potentially -20C weather, all without support, isn’t responsible. After emergency meetings with our safety crew where we looked at options, we feel that cancelling is the only way to proceed. Next week is supposed to be beautiful, but we can't delay due to permits, rentals, volunteer/crew availabillity, and so on.
If you were planning to come here and have hotels booked, why not come anyway? Create your own adventure and enjoy this special part of the province.
For racers, as we promised when we announced this race, we are going to defer all entries at 100% to another one of our races. This supersedes anything I may have offered you previously if you contacted us about withdrawing. Please give us time to figure that out, but we already did announce our schedule for 2021. We may even try to recreate this event at a better time. We do have a lot of S3 swag and shirts now.

We just can’t catch a break this year. Please don't be offended or concerned if we don't reply to emails right away. 2020 has been very taxing on the mental health of both myself and our crew, and we are doing everything we can to make good with our racers. We just need time to work through these changes.
