Special Special Olympics Singapore athletes Tan Too Sheng and Suhaili Bin Sa’al are profiled for their achievements on Youth.Sg, a Singapore based youth website.

Too Sheng ran in the Half Marathon, while Suhaili lead his team to Gold in the 5 aside football event.

UNICEF International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 3 was the 19th annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities, sponsored by the United Nations. Special Olympics International works with UNICEF to advocate health care, education, recreational sports, and employment policies to benefit children with intellectual disabilities. This year’s theme: “Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development.”

Khel Mahakhumb: The Greatest Game 

Khel Mahakhumb
Over 44,000 Special Olympics Bharat athletes played unified in Khel Mahakhumb, a sports festival in India’s Gujarat state from 29 November to 22 December 2011. The athletes are competing in the events track and field, cycling, roller skating and swimming.

Special Olympics Capital Territories (ACT) conducted an Opening Eyes screening under the Healthy Athletes Program. Special Olympics partner Lions Club International’s Vice President Barry Palmer visited the screening, which focuses on the athletes’ visual needs.

Special Olympics Myanmar Launches First Healthy Athletes Screening
 
Myanmar Healthy Athletes
Special Olympics Myanmar held its first Healthy Athletes screening event, welcoming 450 athletes in Muayna, Myanmar.  The inaugural event took place alongside the Special Olympics Myanmar National Games between 14 and 15 November 2011.

Zambian Football action thrills Special Olympics Goa athletes

Special Olympics Goa athletes and coaches were specially invited by the Goa Football Association (GFA) to watch two friendly matches featuring the Zambian National Team on 26 and 29 November 2011, as part of GFA’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Special Olympics Singapore Unified Charity Bowl

Special Olympics Singapore athletes dominated the bowling lanes in the third annual Unified Charity Bowl on 26 November 2011.The event was supported by 10 corporate partners, including Temasek Holdings, Sony, Singapore Press Holdings and BBDO, many of which are recurrent participants.

Special Olympics Website’s new look

SO Website
The Special Olympics website at www.specialolympics.org has gone through a major revamp, featuring fresh content from Special Olympics’ seven regions. In early 2012, major content sections of the site will have language options in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, along with a mobile version of the site. The yearlong project was reviewed by a panel of representatives from every region and several Special Olympics departments, providing valuable insights and suggestions.
