Special Olympics World Summer Games 2015 Announced in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California was announced as the location of the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. More than 40 Olympic legends and Special Olympics athletes participated in a unified Parade of Athletes to commence the announcement ceremony, which was held at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on 14 September. Special Olympics International Board Members, fans, supporters, and local business and political leaders were in attendance to show their support. The Games will be held in July 2015 and are expected to draw 500,000 fans and spectators, along with 7,000 athletes from 170 countries for the competitions.

A Night of Fun & Funds for Special Olympics Asia Pacific

First Trans Tasman Tournament in New Zealand
The first Special Olympics Trans Tasman Tournament was held in New Zealand from 2 - 6 November. This joint event by Special Olympics New Zealand and Special Olympics Australia featured the best athletes in basketball and football competition, championing the values of commitment and sportsmanship.

Special Olympics Pakistan Launches Motor Activities Training Program
Special Olympics Pakistan organized its first Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) in Lahore last week at the Raising Sun Institute for Special Children, an adapted training facility for people with severe disabilities.Motor Activity Training Program prepares athletes with severe or profound intellectual disability, including athletes with significant physical disabilities, for sport activities appropriate for their capabilities.

Athletes Now Hear the World
Special Olympics has partnered hearing specialist Phonak and its Hear the World Foundation to provide hearing aids for athletes. The partnership kicked off at the World Summer Games. The foundation is now working to fulfill these needs in each athlete’s home country. Special Olympics Nippon athlete Hiromi Nakada was the first recipient of a Phonak hearing aid in Tokyo, Japan.

Thailand Central Regional Games
More than 300 athletes from Special Olympics Thailand and Special Olympics Laos took part in the 2011 Central Regional Games in early September, competing in Track and Field, Bocce and Football over the two-day Games.

Australia National Winter Games 2011
Special Olympics Australia had its inaugural National Winter Games together with Disabled WinterSport Australia (DWA) and NSW Interschools Snowsports over the weekend of August 26-28.

Special Olympics Bharat Area Director receives award
Dr Shivajee Kumar, an Area Director from Special Olympics Bharat, has been awarded the prestigious Khel Samman award from the Government of Bihar for his 12-year contribution towards the promotion of sports among the intellectually disabled community.
