As 2016 has wrapped up and 2017 is in full swing, we all begin to file our taxes. This month, an article
from the IRS explains the most recent tax scams and consumer alerts. These scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, so it’s important to remember a few key points:
According to the article:
- The IRS will never call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method. Generally, you will receive a bill by mail if you owe any taxes.
- The IRS will never threaten to immediately bring in local police or other law enforcement.
- The IRS will always give you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
- The IRS will never ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
