JP Allen’s kaleidoscopic comic romance about a writer trying to win back the love of his life makes its Theatrical Premiere on October 21 at The Vogue Theater (3290 Sacramento Street, SF, CA).
Screenwriters watch out — the film, after a deceptively simple beginning, rips apart standard screenplay formulas. A love story, a secret concealed, a terrorist and a hero, zombie strippers, and maybe, time travel – in Allen’s surprising and satirical film, a writer meets an actress and wins her heart with love letters. Later, their relationship begins to fail and he decides to give her a special gift, a screenplay based on those letters. But his creative process also falls apart, and Pirandello-like, his unfinished screenplays, fragments and inner critic come to life to either ruin or save the relationship.
What part of your life would you rewrite for love? reVISIONS carries echoes of Allen’s successful 2014 comedy LOVE AND DEMONS, hailed by the SF Chronicle as "lyrical … adventurous filmmaking." reVISIONS, a truly independent San Francisco film, features an ensemble cast of Bay Area actors led by JP Allen (the writer) and Bekka Fink (his love), with Sally Clawson, Michelle Drexler. Joe Estlack, Chris Pflueger, Ashley Rain Turner, Jason Wolos and Canadian playwright Lucia Frangione. The filmshowcases exciting local music by singer Rossana Schneider, composer John Dole, cellist Joey Chang as well as stunning cello and vocal music by Portland’s Martin Watkinson and Cherita Meadows. Written and Directed by JP Allen. Photographed by Daniel Teixeira-Gomes. Produced by Cathy Montosa. 85 min. NR (not rated). Distributed independently by Coffee and Language.
