Dear Readers,
January's newsletter arrives late because I was gallivanting around the country while Sharon held down the TAI fort single-handedly for 3 weeks. This is a first, and probably last: I drove my son, Andrew, back to college in New York City and then drove back -- over 6000 miles! It was a great trip with many business visits to Hearing Post contributors, editors, and publishers along the way. Besides freezing weather (see above), the only problems encountered were parking in and finding an apartment for four boys in Manhattan. I'm glad to be back in warm, sunny Tucson living the life of an Audiologist! (Just for the record, though, the pictures in this newsletter record the January 22, 2007 snowstorm in Tucson.)
Audiology really is a wonderful vocation. Take for example the new patient who came in today. She was referred by a former patient I haven't seen in over 18 years, but who remembers us fondly and enthusiastically. It is truly humbling to find years later that you've made such a big impression and difference to someone with hearing loss. It makes us acutely aware of how important it is to be fully focussed with every patient we see. If we do an excellent job, it may have long-term effects for the patient far beyond what we might expect.
Thanks to all of our patients, present and past, for putting their trust in us to help them with their hearing difficulties. It's what keeps us going and we hope it keeps you going too!
