Kevin Smith - Angler, Missouri

Full Name:  Kevin J. Smith

Age: 34

Hometown: Lincoln, MO

State Federation: MO TBF

Division: Central

Occupation: Superintendent of Schools

Family: Wife Shannon, sons: Rider (8) Cole (6).

When & why did you begin bass fishing?  I started crappie fishing with my late Grandfather Roy when I was old enough to a hold a fishing rod.  I have always enjoyed fishing but I just started competitive bass fishing about 6 years ago.

What has been your most memorable moment when it comes to fishing so far?  Watching my 8 year old son flip a worm next to a stump and set the hook on a nice largemouth bass.  It was the first time that he had done it all on his own.

Biggest catch; when, where & how:  6.9lbs Tenn-Tomm Waterway in Mississippi during the TBF Central Divisional in 2007.  The bass ate a buzzbait before it ever hit the water.  It ended up being big bass of the event.

Do you have a good luck charm or certain thing you do when it comes to fishing? If so, what is it?  I don’t have one particular good luck charm.  It is very difficult for me to leave my family behind when I attend some of my events.  Normally my boys will give me something for good luck.  My oldest son had given me a marble (frog shaped) necklace for good luck and I wore it each day during the Central Divisional in Arkansas.  They don’t realize it but they are my good luck charms.

Name someone who is a hero to you & would like to meet someday?  My Grandparents are my heroes.  They were such a big part of my life.  They knew the true meaning to respect, appreciation and willingness to help others.  I hope to meet up with them again someday.

What would it mean to you to win the 2010 TBFNC in Knoxville, TN?  It is important to me to win the TBFNC.  I strive very hard to be the best at everything that I do.  I stress to my family and to my students at school that it is very important to take advantage of every opportunity that God has created for us.  I am a very competitive person and I am truly looking forward to the experience.
