Delaware Wins by a Pound; Delaware State Team and Edward Loughran Named 2010 Mid-Atlantic Division Champions

September 24, 2010 - A late take-off this morning due to weather and safety issues sent some out with a rocky start. Others were consistent with their five bass sacks and prevailed.  14 anglers advance today to the 2011 Federation National Championship to compete for their share of nearly a quarter of a million in cash and prizes.  The national champion will earn the chance to “Live the Dream” fishing on the FLW Pro circuit for a year all entry fees paid with use of a wrapped Ranger Boat and Chevrolet truck.  Today, nearly $19,000 was awarded to the state teams in prize money, trophies and Ranger Cup, Lowrance and big bass bonuses.

Loughran went untouched to win with a five bass limit that weighed 10lb 8ounces making his three day total 37lb 11ounces.  Loughran is representing the District of Columbia and he’ll be making back to back trips to the national event with his win today.  “My partners were terrific,” Loughran said.  “Actually, my first non-boater was leading after day one and he clued me in by how he was beating me.”  Loughran fished close to the ramp throwing Craig Powers, CP1 & CP2 Crankbaits.  “I culled fish catching 9-12 keepers each day fishing underwater cover like rocks and logs.”  Loughran thought he was going to need about 12lbs a day to win, but thinks the salt water intrusion may have the bite off.  “Nearly 50 percent of the field fished the same area so it’s heavily pressured.  I just fished behind people all week in very subtle spots no one else found.”  This will be Loughran’s second time to advance.  “I made it to nationals last year and advanced from there to the BFL All-American; I’m excited to go back and see if I can do it again.” Read Full Story

Dover's MossBack FishRack Student Angler Federation Bass Team Making a Difference!

9/27/2010 - Dover's youth bass fishing team participated," in a big way" at the Great Arkansas Cleanup this weekend. The team had 57 members clean up over a mile of waterway in Russellville Ar.,from the end of Orbit lane all the way to The Russellville city park Saturday.

Mentor for the club, FLW Tour Pro, Ray Scheide said" I couldn't be more proud of our youth group and their families and our boat captains. We were split among two events this weekend, the cleanup and Ozark memories Day and still had 57 members show up to the cleanup. You can tell that all of our members have bought into the fact that we can make a difference not only with fishing but with our actions off of the water. I can't say enough about them and the community should be very proud!"

In a couple of weeks, on October 9th, the club will have their second Dover Youth Bass Fishing Open tournament on Lake Dardanelle, this tournament features a 100% payback and up to a 200% payback with sponsor contingencies. The Tournament will be held in conjunction with The Bass Mafia Tackles Grand opening and will feature a trailered weigh in to the Store and will feature special MC's from the FLW Tour and Bass Masters Elite Series. TBF/Wisconsin Sea Grant Project Gets Underway

Dr. Phil Moy of the Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute kicked of a joint venture grant project between the TBF and the Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute with a conference call to all the participants last Wednesday morning.

Representatives from the The Bass Federation (TBF), North American Fishing Club, Masters Walley Circuit, Wildlife Forever, The PAA and approximately 10 Sea Grant personnel from several different states joined in on the call.

The intent and mission of this multi-year grant project is to study the Professional Anglers and tournament organizations with the eventual goal of establishing the best practices for the prevention of the spread of invasive species. It is also the goal of this project to help educate all tournament anglers with the long-term side effects to our lakes and rivers if these unwanted aquatic hitchhikers are not kept in check.

“In the coming year we will see members of the Sea Grant Institute at many of our State, Divisional and National events,” cited TBF Youth and Conservation Director Mark Gintert.

“Educating anglers and helping tournament organizations develop the very best practices to help the spread of invasive species can only help all of us. There is a perception [10100] out there that many of these problems are caused by tournament anglers and tournament organizations, so getting involved with this program will only strengthen our position as being leaders in the fight to stop the spread of these unwanted hitchhikers,” stated Gintert.

Watch for more details as this project moves forward.
