It’s a cold, rainy morning in Austin, Texas. My surfboards are still loaded in the bed of the truck, my towel, wetsuit and snacks still in the warm cab.
The surf journey began at 4 am this morning, and officially ended at 9:38, just 12 minutes ago. So how were the waves? I don’t know. Something happened... something that has never happened to me in my 21 years of surfing. I’m not quite sure what to make of it, I’m still sort of shocked and a little embarrassed. What happened you might ask, what sort of calamity befell me?

[fb_like] Hurricane Forecast - 2012

With the hurricane season a little over a month away (the season will officially begin on June 1st and end on November 30th), it is time for the pre-season forecast from various groups. As Texas surfers we are always gearing up for Hurricane season and the potential big storm surf it can bring to our Texas coast (we scored some surf during Tropical Storm Don last year). While these early forecasts may not always be accurate, they can give us an idea for the hurricane surf we may score later this year.

[fb_like] Scoring Springtime Surf in the Texas Gulf

Frank Floyd is one of the established locals on the Texas Gulf, and is well versed in reading the conditions and knowing when the surf's going to turn on.
"Extreme current" warning signs flash on the overpasses on the way out to the island warn beach goers that the surf is up. Three patrons lost their lives the week prior due to the Gulf stirring with waves breaking as far out as the eye could see. The swell window is looking good for the next four or five days, but as always, it's dependent on what the wind and last of the northern fronts will dictate. We're betting on the wind slacking and the front to groom the waves offshore for a short period of time ...
