CoEC Combustion Autumn School 2022
The second in a series of two CoEC schools scheduled in 2022, the CoEC Combustion Autumn School 2022: Combustion theory with ML/AI applications and interactive analysis intends to present the fundamentals and current challenges in combustion, as well as to introduce the use of Machine Learning (ML) and High Performance Computing (HPC) to approach Exa-scale simulations of turbulent reacting flows. It is to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria from 24-26 October 2022. Those interested in participating can register here.
PATC: Introduction To High-Fidelity Combustion Simulations Using HPC
This PATC, to be held over Zoom on 3 November 2022, will focus on presenting the role that high-fidelity simulations using HPC can make and provide an introduction to the state-of-the-art in numerical simulations of combustion systems. You can read more about the event here.
Understanding and Predicting Hydrogen Combustion
In the Center of Excellence in Combustion (CoEC), new methodologies for the efficient simulation of hydrogen flames are being developed using High-Performance Computing (HPC). As part of this initiative, CoEC researchers will share new findings and methodologies for the understanding and prediction of hydrogen combustion. Within this frame, this training course is bringing together a number of experts to discuss the potential application of hydrogen across different sectors. It will be held in Barcelona, Spain from 30 November to 2 December 2022. More information can be found here.
Call for Papers: 13th U.S. National Combustion Meeting
The Call for Papers for the 13th U.S. National Combustion Meeting, taking place 19 March to 22 March 2023, has been released. Paper abstracts must be submitted through the CI's Account Management System (AMS) portal by 1 December 2022, while WiPP abstracts must be submitted by 1 February 2023.
2nd Asia Pacific Combustion Institute Summer School (APCISS-2)
The main goal of the APCISS-2 is to introduce the AP combustion and fire safety community to fundamental combustion problems, focusing particularly in the application of combustion and fire science to outdoor fires.
This event will take place 4-9 December 2022 in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, Chile, with workshops to be held at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Valparaíso.  Applications should be submitted through the APCISS-2 website
CoEC Combustion Autumn School 2022
The 12th Mediterranean Combustion Symposium will be held in Luxor, Egypt from 23-26 January 2023. The technical program will consist of invited lectures by eminent specialists from all over the world, oral presentation of the contributed papers and posters of the work-in-progress. More details can be found here.
International Symposium on Combustion

40th ISOC Technical Program Co-Chairs Appointed

The Combustion Institute is proud to announce the appointment of Bassam Dally of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia and José L. Torero of University College, London, United Kingdom as the Program Co-Chairs (PCCs) for the 40th Symposium. The PCCs set the tone for the technical program, including the selection of invited speakers and oversight of colloquia. The CI’s 40th International Symposium will take place 21-26 July 2024 in Milan, Italy.

Site of the 41st International Symposium on Combustion
As announced at the 39th International Symposium on Combustion, The Combustion Institute is pleased to inform you that the 41st International Symposium on Combustion will be held in Kyoto, Japan in July 2026!
Women in Combustion Luncheon & Post-Participation Survey
On Tuesday, 26 July 2022 the Women in Combustion Luncheon was held in Vancouver, Canada, adjacent to the CI’s 39th International Symposium on Combustion. Over 120 people attended, sharing diverse experiences over an informal meal. The CI is looking to build upon that momentum and potentially expand upon the "Women in Combustion" (WiC) initiative. To this end, we ask that all attendees complete a short survey by 31 October 2022. You can read more about the event here.
