Laying it Down
Laying it Down

Playground of Illusion -
Watercolor Paintings by Rick Bennett

When you examine the paintings in Playground of Illusion, you will discover right off that something is different. Architectural details of a historic Raleigh home disintegrate into abstract color. The organic shapes in Laying It Down seem to have no reference to the real world, but began as a photograph of shirtless men laying steaming asphalt surrounded by large machinery.  A playful and contemporary application of paint is paired with an emotional attachment to Rick's roots in southern culture. In the abstract watercolor paintings created for this show, Rick invokes a sense of motion, the feel of the breeze, or the drama of sunlight. Rather than document the scene, Rick allows you to stand in the energy of the moment.  Come play in this collection of images evocative of nature and life.

Opening reception - Friday, April 5, 2013, 6 - 9:30 PM
Show runs April 4 - 27

Ceramic Sculpture by Jamie Studebaker
Chicken Man Jar

"Everyone interprets life in their own unique way. No two minds are alike, resulting in a near-infinite array of viewpoints.

My sculptures are narratives. I use color, texture and dimension as portals to my own perspective of reality. The process of creation and the unique challenges inherent to each sculpture are metaphors for life itself."

Allen Clapp celebrates the incredible
Banana Split
flexibility of acrylic paints with an exhibition of works from his Riots of Color Series. The ROC Series uses as many as 13 layers of transparent and opaque paint to guide your eye through an intricate maze of color.

Color and Texture at the Farmer's Market
Cabbage

Farmer's markets are full of good food, plants and people and the State Farmer's Market is no exception. From fresh produce to old-fashioned candy, spring planting to Christmas greenery, our  Farmer's Market flourishes year round. Amid all the activity is a world full of color and texture. Susan Jones' beautifully hand colored photographs document the magnitude of goodness that is North Carolina grown. Through cropping and careful application of color, Susan builds on the farmers' artistic vision, presenting each food as a work of art.

Vicki Rees at Sertoma in May and Bond Park in June

Vicki Rees has two shows in the works.  The first will be held during May at Sertoma Arts Center in the Raleigh Room.  The show will feature her “Raleigh, Naturally” series.  In addition, her “fruit + veggies” will be on display in June at the Cary Senior Center in Bond Park.
