What's the Story?

Passing Through

n. lee ball exhibits her work in a solo show entitled What’s the Story? Sometimes the stories are clear and come from images found in old family or personal photos. Other times, the work is inspired by lyric and poem or layered in personal symbols. Lee's intent is not to have a single storyline, but to spark a conversation with the viewer's life experiences, giving them enough infomation to create their own narrative.  As a bonus, viewers can become participants by leaving reactions, interpretations, and stories at the scene or in “The Notebook,” giving another dimension to the narrative.

TPG Members Judge International Fire Art Exhibition

Fire Art

Transformation
TPG members Allen Clapp, Linda Eddins, Lee Ball, and Rick Bennett were invited to judge the 4th Annual Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference Fire Art Exhibition.  The International Association of Wildland Fire conducts the conference.  The theme of the show was, of course, fire.  The conference was held at the Raleigh Convention Center with awards presented at the banquet on February 20.  The art included 20 paintings, several quilts including one from Australia, and a poem. The painting Transformation was donated by Rick Bennett to the silent auction to raise funds for the International Fire Relief Mission.

Coming in April - Solo Show of Vibrant Watercolors by Rick Bennett

A Playground of Illusion
In April TPG will feature vibrant watercolor paintings by Rick Bennett. With playfulness and wit, Rick explores the qualities of watercolor that create entertaining passages, delicate textures, and bold colors. His confident use of light creates atmosphere and defines space.  At the North Carolina Artists Exhibition jurors lecture, Larry Wheeler, director of the NC Museum of Art, noted Rick’s successful technical ability with watercolor.  “The psychoactive watercolors of Rick Bennett beckon the viewer to reconsider the ordinary,” observes Au Courant Magazine. Rick’s paintings connect art with the lives we lead.

Opening reception - Friday, April 5, 2013, 6:00 - 9:30 PM

Mystery Build prepared 50 build kits specifically for Artspace.  Artists are asked to use the kits to create a work of art following the rules of Mystery Build.  Artists will have two months to construct their work. At the end of the two months,  Artspace will auction the works in their first online auction to support the Artspace Scholarship Fund! During the construction process, both Artspace and Mystery Build will work together to document and promote this project.  To find out more, visit here.
