Dear ,
As often happens in December, we slow down a little bit. I hope you have the chance to do the same!
We won't be hosting a Transition Santa Cruz potluck this month. However, you might consider attending the monthly potluck of our friends, the (Sub)urban Homesteading and Sustainable Living Meetup group. That will take place at the Live Oak Grange, on Tuesday the 18th, 6 pm, and will include a holiday crafts/treats sale and trade. More information can be found here.
Best wishes to you and we'll see you in the new year!

Pajaro Community Orchard needs you
|
Kickstarter donations needed by December 20
Donate here and help create a "people's orchard."
Ana Rasmussen, one of our local resilience heroes, has started a series of community gardens, primarily for low-income people, in Watsonville. Even though some of the gardeners work in agriculture, having their own garden plot is a completely different matter, and one that improves both their lives and the area's food resilience.
Now she has found a site for a community orchard, so that fruit trees can join cukes, zukes, and tomatillos in improving the urban foodshed. With over $5,000 already pledged, the campaign needs just a few more people to sign on before December 20 to meet its target (otherwise that money goes away). Watch a video about the project and help out here. |

Winter Reading
|
A few things you might enjoy curling up with.
The Sharing Solution, by brilliant sharing economy lawyer Janelle Orsi, contains a wealth of practical information on how to set up informal and formal sharing arrangements ranging from houses, to cars, to appliances, to co-operative enterprises. Available through local bookstores.
Starting with the sense that the contemporary world is uncertain and fragmented, troubled with tragedy and sodden with inauthenticity, Mythologist Meade seeks for hints of renewal amidst the rattling and the rubble. At a time when people expect the world to come to an end because of global warming or nuclear nightmares, at the hand of wrathful deities or the prediction of ancient calendars, Meade offers surprising tales of renewal as well as an in-depth-treatise on the psychology and mythology of the end of an era.
Or, for something shorter, check out the first part of Richard Heinberg's sobering, yet perhaps ultimately reassuring, essay, Conflict and Change in the Era of Economic Decline. Online at the Post-Carbon Institute website.
