Hello ,
In the spirit of March Madness, let's talk about what it takes to build a great team. The basics of team building are simple: it's about getting to know, understand and trust your teammates so that you can create an environment that fosters communication and support, and ultimately a highly effective team.
But, when most people hear the phrase "team building", it often conjures up visions of ridiculous exercises where people are blindfolded and asked to trust fall backwards into the arms of waiting colleagues (see this month's video for an example.)
Companies offer team building exercises to boost morale. But when you are asked to imagine yourself marooned on a desert island and challenged to design a comfortable shelter using a few building supplies, a rusty knife and Bob and Krista from accounting, it might not be the morale booster you had in mind.
Why not consider a different type of team building activity? One that doesn't include ropes, barrels, planks or obstacle courses.
