MARLINS WEEKLY!!!
December 16 2011
Dear Marlins Family Member,

We want to  strongly encourage all of you to sign up for text messaging.  WINTER is coming right around the corner.  We don't want anyone traveling through the snow to get to practice when it's been cancelled.  That's why we've implemented texting capability.  It's very simple and the link is included below or you can text umacmarlins to 84483 (the easiest way to sign-up).  After signing up please read on for our last minute updates.

Volunteers URGENTLY Needed

This week, the Girls are in need of a finish judge, and the boys team needs 3 deck parents and a finish judge.  If you can help, contact Melissa Faw at  fabfaws@verizon.net (girls) or Amy Vallette at avallette@verizon.net (boys).

ELECTRONICS AND VALUABLES AT SWIM MEETS

We strongly recommend against sending electronics or any valuables (water safe or otherwise) with your children to meets or practices.   While electronics can help keep children occupied during the waits between races, they are very vulnerable to the wet environment on pool deck and they cannot be secured.   If your child must bring a cell phone, please instruct him or her to keep it in a plastic bag at the bottom of her/his swim bag during the meet.

Parents, please check swim bags after a meet to ensure that your child has brought home everything they brought with them, and nothing they did not.  See the note below about Lost and Found!

LOST AND FOUND

Swim meets are prime spots for lost and found items.  Swimmers often pack up in a rush after the meet is over, and because of the limited seating on deck, even the most careful can have trouble keeping their “stuff” all in on place during a meet.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that parents look through their swimmers’ bags after each meet, to make SURE that a) all the stuff that went to the meet also came home; and b) that it is the SAME stuff.

If you find that you are missing something, OR that your swimmer has inadvertently picked up someone else’s something, please contact the website, and we will add it to this list.    Please provide an email address at which folks can reach you if they have found or lost the relevant item.

NB:  We STRONGLY recommend against bringing valuable items on deck during a swim meet, for all the reasons noted above.
