8’s and 10’s swim in the morning; Warm Up is at 7:00 AM! Please note that this is the ONLY opportunity our team will have to warm up, so don’t be late. Other teams will be warming up after us. Meet starts at 8:30 AM.
12 and up’s: warm up is at 12:30 PM. As noted above, this is the ONLY opportunity you will have to warm up, so don’t be late! Meet starts at 2 PM.
When you come to the high school, follow the signs to the team locker room (we are NOT seated on deck). Be on time so you don’t miss your warm up! Parents, parking will be tight in the afternoon!
Please note: we have peanut allergies on the team, so please do not send your child to the meet with peanuts or peanut products. |

DIVISIONAL CHAMPS: SIGN UP BY SUNDAY (1/29) AT NOON
After the Last Chance Meet, all that remains are our championship meets. All swimmers are eligible for one of the two meets – Divisions or Leagues. Divisional Champs, will take place on Saturday, February 4 (BOYS) and Sunday, February 5 (GIRLS). Boys are swimming at Radnor, and Girls at Perkiomen Valley; details are here (LINK TO SIGN UP) ; see also Coaches Corner, below.
This meet is a great way to end the season, and our swimmers typically do very well; ribbons and medals are awarded to the winners.
Swimmers can choose 3 individual events; the coaches will determine the relays. To make sign up easy, we have taken them on-line! Please click here and indicate whether or not your swimmer will be attending – and if so, which events s/he would like to swim. (NOTE: swimmers who qualify for an event League Champs will not be able to swim that event at Divisions; coaches will notify any affected swimmers next Tuesday.)
Division sign ups are due by SUNDAY at NOON. Any questions, contact Coach Tim at umacgirlscoach@gmail.com or Coach Sergey at umacboyscoach11@gmail.com .

COACHES CORNER
FROM THE (DIVING) BOARD:
Our divers did a great job last week against Hatboro-Horsham and Springfield – congratulations to all! Don’t forget that Last Chance Diving is this SUNDAY; the cost is $10/diver.
FROM THE DECK:
Congratulations to our boys team for winning their final meat of the season and besting 53 best times. Our girls had a lot of great swims but ended up short. Our girls also dropped time with 80 best times. A Marlins record fell this weekend by one of our unlimited swimmers Taylor Mateja in the 100 fly. Congratulations to Taylor who now has four Marlins Records!
Regarding Divisions Champs and League Champs: everyone swims at individual championships. The two individual championships are almost treated as one meet. Swimmers can swim three individual events and two relays between the two meets. The top 18 swimmers in the league in each event get to go to League Championships; whoever does not qualify for leagues gets to go to divisions. Everyone gets a chance to swim. So there are two major meets left in the season for us this yea: our Last Chance meet and individual championships.
For individual championships we need you to pick three events that you want to swim; you can do it online HERE. Please let your coach know if your child cannot swim. If we do not hear from you the coaches will have to chase you down. The Marlins will cover the cost of your swimmer swimming in this meet
SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK:
We have four swimmers of the week this week (it was a good week!): Ronald Xu, Joshua Adams, Sophia Reeder, and Kaitlyn Leszczynski. Congratulations all!

REMINDER: USA SWIMMING AT UMAC
For those swimmers who would like to extend their competitive season through the end of March, we will be offering an 8 week USA swimming program this spring. Swimmers who sign up will have the opportunity to participate in two or three USA meets (in February and March); these are similar to the SAL Invitationals, in that swimmers are matched against others with similar times from other USA teams around the area. See the website for more information on these meets.
All Marlins swimmers are eligible for this program. Coach Sergey is heading the coaching staff of our USA swimming program, and will be joined by other Marlins coaches. If there is sufficient interest, we will run a summer long course program as well.
NOTE: We will accept USA swimming registrations through the start of the program; however, swimmers will need to be registered with USA swimming in order to sign up for meets, and we will need to sign up SOON for the first meet we’d like to attend (the weekend of Feb 17-18). So if you are interested, please get your registrations in as soon as possible. Contact Katherine at kemcclell@gmail.com for more information, or check our website for more information.
COSTS: There are two costs involved in the program: a required USA swimming membership and UMAC fees. All swimmers must join USA swimming; the fee for this is $60 for a one-year membership. (Thus, swimmers who join now will be able to swim at USA meets through next fall.)
The Marlins fee is $100, which covers practices through the end of March.
TO SIGN UP: Download a USA registration form here. Fill it out and return, with payment (a total of $160, for both fees), EITHER to Katherine McClelland’s folder in the Marlins Family File cabinet, or by mail to the Marlins post office box: Upper Merion Marlins, PO Box 60280, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
DEADLINE: Sign ups are due by FEBRUARY 1.

MINNOWS ARE COMING...
Our 2012 Minnows season is right around the corner! This popular program is for children ages 5 – 8 who LOVE to swim, but who are not yet ready to swim competitively.
(Please note: this is NOT a learn to swim program; swim lessons will be offered at our Spring clinic in April. Minnows is appropriate for children who are able to swim without help and have mastered at least one stroke, usually freestyle. Minnows is also not appropriate for swimmers who have been on the Marlins team; it is a pre-team program.) Instruction takes place in small groups and focuses on learning the strokes and building up endurance.
The program will run on Tuesday and Thursday nights this year, in two sessions: 5:30- 6:15, and 6:15 – 7 PM, both at the Middle School, starting on February 7 and running through April 19.
Sign up for Minnows is in-person only; swimmers should come prepared to get in the water and be evaluated. Registration will take place on Tuesday, January 31, from 5:30 – 7 PM at the Middle School pool. Bring a copy of the registration form with you.

Reminder: Sign Up To Receive Marlins Texting Alerts
Those of you who were wondering what was up with the meets last Saturday didn’t need to look further than your phone! And those who were on the way to the boys’ meet on Sunday were spared the possibility of getting lost with a timely text alert telling you that the address listed on the website was wrong (just enough to throw off your GPS).
This is why we offer the service – so sign up NOW! Please note that these texts will NOT replace the emails; they will be used only for last minute issues and emergencies. In order to receive texts, you must sign up; instructions are on the website.
