Fall 2012 - September / October Update

Usher In The Kingdom of God - On Earth As It Is In Heaven

Greetings! ,

God has done amazing things in  Uganda and in our lives as we have served together this month for His Glory and the expansion of the Kingdom of God!   Space will not allow me to share all the stories of impacted lives and stories of healing and hope brought to those in need, but I'll just try to give you some highlights to encourage you to continue your involvement with Usher In's world outreach ministry and to trust Him to use you in a greater way, right where you live.

The picture above is part of the team that spent a week reaching out to Kihihi Uganda -- a remote town in southwestern Uganda, very close to the Congo border and not far from Rwanda.  Our friend, Pastor Elisha Kakwerere from Rukungiri has been praying for a number of years for a new Church to be established in this area. In 2010, a few of us taught at a two day's Pastor's conference here which encouraged hundreds of local Christian leaders.  2012 was the year for fulfillment of the vision for Kihihi.

Our team visited many schools, a prison, police station, hospital,  Congo refugee transfer depot, and went door to door in the business area--- celebrating the goodness of Christ through music, drama and sharing the Gospel -- or 'Good News' of how each person could come into a personal relationship with the living God and find forgiveness and eternal life in His Son Jesus.

In one week in Kihihi, our combined team of Americans and Ugandans shared the Gospel with over  3,800 people and 1,500 made personal decisions to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. This was in addition to the first week in Budo where 1,800 heard about Jesus and 673 invited Christ into their lives.   It was just  phenomenal!  The staff of the hotel we stayed at the last three nights in Kihihi was watching our excitement and passion for Jesus and four of them asked if they could join us in our group prayer and wanted to receive Jesus as their Savior too!

The final day in Kihihi we held a community 'children's outreach' at the new church property.  There were hundreds of local kids there sitting  under the shade of the tents and enjoying activities like singing, dancing, arts and crafts, and other fun activities.  Everyone received snacks and a drink plus colorful Gospel booklets to share with their families and friends.

Later in the day we had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Church building that was only about two weeks old.  As we moved our chairs inside to celebrate together, the place was overflowing with both people and joy in the Holy Spirit.  Many people who had received Christ during the week joined us in the celebration!

The once vacant, overgrown lot was now a Church.  It used to be  well known by the police as a place where hooligans hung out and was often a place where fights and even rapes occurred.  Now, by God's Grace -- a lighthouse for the community exists there -- a place of joy, of worship, of repentance and new life.

A couple of months ago -- we were not sure this was going to happen because we needed to raise over $15,000 for the building and outreach supplies, but God abundantly supplied in response to your prayers and those who saw the eternal value in making a financial investment.  The first Sunday that this Church met -- after our team was on the way to the airport -- more than 500 people filled the building with songs of praise and heard God's Word faithfully proclaimed by Pastor Ivan.

Thank you for the part you played by praying and giving  ---- We are asking the Lord to replicate this successful Church planting and evangelistic  ministry in other remote African villages.

Won't you join us by giving, praying or even going?   More info on our website or via email at info@usherin.org

Prayer Requests

* For the 2,173 people who responded to the Gospel presentations in Budo and Kihihi Uganda.  Pray for their spiritual growth, protection, provision and that they in turn will lead many family and friends to know Jesus Christ.

* Provision for Randy to make the November ministry trip to Africa and wisdom concerning plans for a new Bible School and Church planting ministry in South Sudan.

* For God to call the people He wants on the teams for future India and Uganda missions.

* For Pastor Ivan, his family and new congregation at Kihihi Community Church in Uganda.  They have the nice problem of being filled to capacity and beyond on the very first Sunday.  Pray for provision of more chairs, a generator, sound system, etc.

* For Pastor Elisha of Rukungiri Community Church.  They have recently built a structure on the Church property, rather than continuing to rent a building.  The new building is a pole structure with corrugated steel roof, but no sides, floor, etc.   Pray for provision to finish enclosing the building and for continued favor as they reach their town and surrounding villages for Christ.

* For Pastor James Okori in Lira Uganda and provision for prison ministry discipleship materials and for his personal needs to be met, as he faithfully serves Africa Hope Bible Institute plus his work as a Church Pastor.

* Pray for hundreds of orphan children being cared for by Pastor Praveen in Kakinada India and his family in four different rented homes. Pray for provision to purchase one new building so that the children may live together with adequate room.

* Pray for Pastor Jonathan Kabanda as he shepherds the people at 4 month old Budo Bible Community Church in Uganda. Pray that they will have steady growth and can disciple the new Jesus followers who received Christ during our mission outreach.

* Pray for Roshan and Irene who run Happy Home for  the Handicapped in India. Pray for their endurance, provision and impact on the 80-120 children in their care - either full time or part-time.

* Pray for the Lord to provide the ongoing financial needs of this ministry and wisdom to know what opportunities to pursue and which ones need to wait.

"But he was pierced for our transgressions,
     he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
     each of us has turned to our own way;

and the Lord has laid on him
     the iniquity of us all."

Pastor and Christian Leader Training Conference

A two day Pastor and Christian Leader's conference was held in Kihihi town to encourage and challenge the attendees on the topic of 'Transformation'.

It was a powerful two days where many repented for not working together for the Glory of God.  A commitment was made to be united in their efforts to reach the unsaved and change their community with the Gospel of Christ.

Practical teachings on transforming your personal life, your ministry, your community, your outreach and more were well received by these men and women hungry for teaching in the Word of God.

We are praying that these leaders will be reinvigorated to faithfully serve as shepherds of the flock God has entrusted to them and to work together with other Bible teaching Churches to  change Kihihi town forever.

Usher International's One Year Anniversary

As our board of director's met in early September we  rejoiced having  passed the one year mark since this ministry was officially incorporated.

The hard work of launching a new organization has been worth it as we have seen fruitful ministry in India, Haiti and Uganda in 2012.   Lives have been impacted -- both here, as we have trained our team members how to share their faith, coached them through the fundraising and trip preparations and encouraged them as God stretched them during the trips.

It has also been a blessing to see thousands come to know Christ as their Savior, to equip Pastor's and Christian leaders with Biblical training, to distribute Bibles and other tools -- and to help local Churches grow and thrive.

We are convinced that the best days of ministry are still ahead of us and are grateful for those of you who have committed to join us by praying, giving, volunteering your expertise and by helping us find Churches that can benefit from our services.

Happy Anniversary Usher In!  We can't wait to see what year # 2 has in store!
