Happy Holidays!

We hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and enjoying the wonderful Holiday Season.  To start, WCA would like to extend its warmest holiday wishes to each of you, your family, and angling partners.  The Holidays are a special time of year and WCA wants to thank you for the wonderful relationships and the enjoyable time on the water.  We look forward to seeing everyone during the 2011 fishing season!

Winter arrived early in the Jackson Hole / Teton Valley with over 118" of snow reported at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on November 27th, 2010.  The snow has continued to fall through the month of December, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for more precipitation throughout the winter.  An above average snowpack in combination with the previous two winter's moisture will result in some awesome fishing conditions this upcoming summer season.  Recruitment of juvenile fish in each river system should be excellent as well as the consistent flows each river should receive from the three winter's exceptionally large snowpacks.  Just because it is winter does not mean that you have to pack up your fly fishing equipment.  Fishing can be surprisingly good this time of year, so don't forget to check out our fishing reports webpage as well as the WorldCast Anglers fly fishing blog for the most up-to-date fishing information in the Jackson Hole / Teton Valley area.

The South Fork and Henry's Fork have continued to fish well during the past couple months, especially on the warmer days.  Midge hatches have been prolific, and fish have been actively eating dry flies.  This also can be an excellent time of year to scout for new areas of the river that we think we know well.  Look for new holding structure, side channels to explore as well as all those buckets and crannies that we know fish love to hide, live, and feed; the pay off can be big!  The South Fork, Henry's Fork and Snake rivers will continue to offer limited winter fishing opportunities through the next couple of months.  Midges will make up the vast majority of the hatches, but don't be surprised to see Capnia stoneflies (small black winter stones #16 and #18) on warm winter days.  Nymphing will be the most productive method of catching fish.  Winter dry fly fishing can be a blast with small midge patterns, little parachute Adams as well as micro dry dropper rigs.  As always, stop by any of our locations, give us a call (800.654.0676) or send us an email if you have any questions about our trip offerings, fly fishing equipment or general fly fishing needs.  Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you this holiday season!

WCA Gift Cards-The Perfect Gift!

WorldCast Anglers knows how hard it can be to shop for anglers during the holiday season, and to be honest, anglers are some of the pickiest and strangest consumers on the planet.  Whether it be a certain fly pattern, a certain leader length, or a certain color of fly line - every angler has a personal preference as well as theory of why one pattern or piece of equipment works and why another fails.  "What flies do they have, what flies do they need, I think they have some of those, I'm not sure, they will have to pick those out", are all common words heard in a fly shop during the holiday shopping season.

WorldCast Anglers has made it easier for those mysterious anglers as well as those kind gift-givers with our WCA Gift Cards.  Why not make it easy on yourself and get what the angler in the family needs and wants.  WCA gift cards are available in any amount and can be applied to most WCA retail and outfitting items, plus we will ship them to you free of charge!  So take the guessing game out of your holiday shopping for your angling partner or family member and get them a WCA gift card for all their holiday needs, next summer's fly selection or that guided float trip they have always talked about.  To learn more about these gift cards, stop in any of our locations, email us or give us a call at 800.654.0676.

WorldCast Anglers' President, Mike Dawes and Vice President, Jim Hickey,
recently visited and fished at Playa Blanca, Mexico, below is an excerpt from their fishing report from the land of the Mayan Ruins:

"Wow, this trip truly has something for everyone!  Whether you are a first time beginner or seasoned expert, Playa Blanca can cater to any saltwater angling level.  The most impressive thing was that all the beginners in the group caught fish, some even landed Permit and large Tarpon; that is unheard of in the world of saltwater fly fishing!  Let's not forget about the two Grand Slams (Permit, Tarpon, Bonefish caught in one day) and the Super Grand Slam (Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook caught in one day) that were recorded during the week.  In six days the group landed hundreds of bonefish, 13 tarpon, 10 snook, and 15 permit.  Don't forget about all the jacks, barracuda, snappers, and even sting rays!  It was an outstanding trip highlighted with great fishing, decent weather (and some tough weather as well), great food and lots of laughs."  Click the photo to read more about the estimated 37 pound Monster Permit pictured to the left.
