Greetings!

We hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and enjoying the beginning of 2011.  We hope that everyone is in agreement that we all need to fish more in 2011.  Think of it as a common new year's resolution!  The winter snow pack is shaping up nicely, and 2011 is going to be a great water year with fabulous fishing conditions.  If you completed your 2010 new year's resolution of fishing more, you may have to try again this year.  Don't worry, we are here to help you in the process!
Winter has tightened its grip on the Jackson Hole / Teton Valley area in the past couple of weeks.  The Snake River Drainage is currently at 127% of average, while the Teton/Henry's Fork Drainage comfortably sits at 123% of average.  In fact, we just broke the 300 inch mark of snow received this current season!  The snow has continued to fall through the month of December and January, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for more precipitation throughout the winter.  If the current weather patterns hold true, this would mark the third consecutive above average snowpack.  Sure it brings a large run-off, but the overall benefit to the river systems is un-measurable!  Just because it is winter does not mean that you have to pack up your fly fishing equipment.  Fishing can be surprisingly good this time of year, so don't forget to check out our fishing reports webpage as well as the WorldCast Anglers fly fishing blog for the most up-to-date fishing information in the Jackson Hole / Teton Valley area.

The Snake, South Fork and Henry's Fork rivers can offer some great winter fly fishing opportunities during the next couple of months, especially on the warmer calm days.  Midge hatches can been prolific and even offer some dry fly fishing opportunities.  Be on the look out for slow slack water areas where wind and currents pile midges by the handful.  New changes to the Idaho fishing regulations open up some new fishing water this year that are most often overlooked in the late winter and spring.  The Henry's Fork from the upper Railroad Ranch boundary to Island Park Dam (Box Canyon Section) is now open to fishing all year - catch and release only!  The Teton River is now open to fishing all year (December 1st - Friday before Memorial Weekend - Catch and Release only - Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through November 30th - General Season rules apply).  Be sure to check out the new Idaho Fishing Season Regulations for more details.  As always, stop by any of our locations, give us a call (800.654.0676) or send us an email if you have any questions about our trip offerings, fly fishing equipment or general fly fishing needs.  Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you this winter season!

Support Stripping for a Cure 2011!!

Every September, 50 ladies all come together to fish, socialize and most importantly raise money and support the Susan G Komen Foundation in combating breast cancer.  Created by Susie McDowell, Kay Jones and Ellen Dailey, Stripping for a Cure has gained tremendous support and traction through the past two years.  Ladies are given 6 pink hand-ties flies for use during the day.  Points are awarded for fish caught on the pink flies as well biggest fish, "Whitefish Queen", most doubles in the boat, wildlife sightings and many more.  Whitney McDowell even arranged for the Pink Boat from Rowing for a Cure to be used in the 2010 event.  Has anyone ever seen 50 ladies in a pink drift boat?  In essence, the event is all about having fun with friends, catching fish, and creating support and awareness for one of the most deadly female diseases in the world.  2011 will mark the third annual event!

The fly fishing industry has been a strong supporter of Breast Cancer research and development.  Almost all major fly fishing vendors offer a "pink" product or series or two, and WorldCast Anglers is a proud supporter of Stripping for a Cure.  We would like to extend our thanks to the Stripping for a Cure team -- way to go, ladies!  This year's Stripping for a Cure will be held on September 13th and 14th, 2011 on the South Fork of the Snake River.  Anglers stay in Swan Valley, while guides from WorldCast Anglers, South Fork Outfitters and Lodge at Palisades Creek pick up the "pink" anglers for a wonderful day on the river, fishing pink flies, spotting wildlife and enjoying the day named to the Susan G. Komen - Wyoming Foundation.  For more information about Stripping for a Cure, please contact Kay Jones or Ellen Dailey.  Don't miss this opportunity to support a wonderful foundation and enjoy a great day fishing on the water with the Stripping for a Cure team!

Love to fish, love people, love to be on the water?  Then a career as a fly fishing guide may be knocking at your door!  The Western Rivers Guide School, the oldest guide school in the country, teaches you everything you need to know about your transition into the fly fishing industry and guiding profession.  Not interested in a fly fishing guide career but own your own driftboat or raft and want to be safe and productive on the water?  No problem, the Western Rivers Guide school is perfect for those that are just looking to become better anglers, accelerate their learning curve in fly fishing techniques and familiarize themselves with driftboats and their applications.  Operated by the most experienced fly fishing guides and instructors in the rocky mountain west, your experience will be tailored to the skill sets that you identify while laying a foundation to become a fly fishing guide, better angler, or master boat operator.

WorldCast Anglers offers two Western Rivers Guide School sessions each year: May 20th-28th and June 3rd-11th.  This seven day intense course consists of two classroom instruction days and 5 days on the water, establishing the foundation for your experience.  Classroom activities include guest speakers, experts and instructors that give you their own perspective on guiding as well as entomology, client dynamics and relationships and overall fishing knowledge and techniques.  The river days consist of three day trips and an overnight trip at our "Cottonwood Camp" on the famed South Fork of the Snake River.  A full detailed itinerary can be viewed on the Guide School Webpage as well as course details.

WorldCast Anglers currently has a couple of openings for each guide school.  These spots are sure to fill fast so be sure not to miss out on this opportunity to open your door to fly fishing guiding or become a better rower or angler.  All prospective students are required to complete the following Western Rivers Guide School Application.  Space is limited to 10 students per school so please call (800.654.0676) or email WorldCast Anglers today with any questions about this incredible fly fishing learning experience and opportunity!!!
