Greetings!

We hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and enjoying the beginning of spring.  The summer will be here before we know it, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone this summer season.  Our winter snow pack is still growing, and this summer is going to be a great water year with fabulous fishing conditions.  We saw the first signs of spring these past couple of weeks as mid-day temperatures hit the 40's and 50's and snow began to melt in the valley area.  The Snake River Drainage is currently at 115% of average, while the Teton/Henry's Fork Drainage comfortably sits at 114% of average.  In fact, we just broke the 450 inch mark of snow received this current season, climbing towards 500 total inches!  March, April and May are historically very wet months in our area, so we are expecting more precipitation for our river systems during the upcoming months.  This all correlates to great fishing and water conditions for this upcoming summer and fall fishing season.  Fishing can be surprisingly good this time of year, so don't forget to check out our fishing reports webpage as well as the WorldCast Anglers fly fishing blog for the most up-to-date fishing information in the Jackson Hole / Teton Valley area.

The Snake, South Fork and Henry's Fork rivers offered some great winter fly fishing days during some of the warmer spells of weather these past weeks.  Nymphing has been the most productive fishing method; however, the spring dry fly season is just around the corner.  Midge hatches have been the most prolific and will remain the most important hatch during the next months until the Baetis begin to pop.  Be on the look out for slow slack water areas where wind and currents pile midges by the handful.  Conant, Wolf Flats, Byington, Heise and Lorenzo boat ramps on the South Fork are now accessible for float access; more boat ramps should open up as spring progresses.  As always, stop by any of our locations, give us a call (800.654.0676) or send us an email if you have any questions about our trip offerings, fly fishing equipment or general fly fishing needs.  Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you this winter season!

$50 OFF on early season trips!!!

Spring is on the way to the Jackson Hole/Teton Valley areas, and we are excited for some awesome early season days on the water.  To be honest, we can have some great fly fishing days during the winter and spring months and some of those days can even offer incredible dry fly fishing.  This is a great time of year to get on the water before the summer traffic and fishing season gets into full swing.  Just because there is snow on the ground doesn't mean you can't get out on the water and catch some fish!!!
For 2011, WorldCast Anglers will be offering all our full and half day trips at a $50 discount until May 15th!  Float trips will become more available as more boat ramps are cleared of snow and ice, and we just received reports that some boat ramps on the South Fork are now open.  We are also offering our famous "Brown Bag Special" for these preseason trips; bring your own lunch and we will take an additional $20.00 off the cost of the already discounted trip.  That is a total savings of $70!  These trips include everything that our normal trips do, so don't miss out on some great early season fishing trips at a great discounted rate!
Contact WorldCast Anglers at (800) 654-0676 for booking questions and more information on these early season fly fishing opportunities!

The winter and spring are exceptionally cold and snowy in the Rocky Mountain West, and we all dream of those summer days on the river casting to big hungry trout.  Reality usually sets in during the next couple of months as we all get the itch to fish and summer is still a couple of months away.  In this day of technology, you don't even have to leave your house or bed during a cold spring day to be transported to your favorite river in prime summer fashion.  Committed to cold water conservation, our friends at Trout Unlimited asked WCA to help in filming an episode of their TV Show, "On The Rise," on the Teton River this past summer.  Complete with film gear and crews, WCA dropped three rafts into the Teton Canyon to help show the world this magnificent fishery as well as the multiple threats that could potentially destroy this fishery in the future.

Trout Unlimited's "On The Rise" focuses on and highlights rivers and streams around the country where Trout Unlimited is working to protect and restore habitat for trout.  Be sure to tune in and watch WorldCast Anglers host the "On The Rise" crew on one of our favorite and greatest off-the-beaten path fisheries in the Rocky Mountain West!  Broadcasted on the Sportsman Channel, Trout Unlimited's "On The Rise" can be viewed on the following dates and times (All Times Eastern Standard Time):
  • Monday, March 28th - 1:00 pm
  • Tuesday, March 29th - 10:30 pm
  • Friday, April 1st - 7:30 am
  • Saturday, April 2nd - 12:30 pm
Be sure to help the fight to Stop the Teton Dam!  Check out this video or contact Trout Unlimited with any questions.  As always, feel free to email us, give us a call at 800.654.0676, or stop by any of our locations with any questions you have about our Teton Canyon trips and how you can help "Stop the Teton Dam!"

The Permit, also known as the "Black Tailed Devil," is a fast, elusive and sometimes scary fish that tops the list of every fly angler in the world.  In fact, it is one of the the most difficult flats species to corral on a fly.  Anglers have been known to leverage everything to get a chance to hold this prized gamefish of the saltwater flats.  The March Merkin Permit tournament brings together a diverse group of Permit fanatics, which includes WorldCast Anglers' Mike Dawes and Jim Hickey.  The sixth annual tournament, held at the Key West Harbour Yacht Club, ended on a high note last week after 26 boats spent 3 days chasing these elusive gamefish from the Marquesas to the Content Keys with 10 fish caught, and WorldCast Anglers' Mike Dawes took home the trophy for first place!  Guided by Don Gable of Victor, ID and Key West, FL, Mike won the competition with one fish landed each day, one of which weighed 18 pounds.  WorldCast Anglers' Jim Hickey came away with fifth place with one fish caught!  18 teams in the tournament did not catch fish.  Congratulations to Mike Dawes on such an incredible achievement!!!

Permit are mysterious creatures and little is known about their life cycles, spawning habits, or why they are in certain areas, making for a very difficult approach to protecting and conserving the species and their habitat.  The March Merkin tournament has made a commitment to help!  The Merkin was actually the site in 2010 of the kickoff of "Project Permit," sponsored by Costa del Mar in conjunction with the Bonefish Tarpon Trust.  "Project Permit" represented the first ever attempt to tag Permit in order to answer basic questions about Permit populations, growth rates and movements.  This year's tournament also required anglers and guides to not only measure fish before release but to tag them as well.  In fact, anglers and guides are given 25 bonus points for tagging each fish.  The March Merkin is also a charity tournament benefiting the bonefish Tarpon Trust and the Don Hawley Foundation, which helps struggling fishing guides in the Key's community.  Congratulations again to Mike Dawes and Jim Hickey for such a great showing at the 2011 March Merkin!
