“How to Prepare for the Hot Weather Tennis”
When the weather starts to heat up it’s time to prepare ourselves for being outdoors for long periods of time. We must become acclimated to the hot temperatures especially if we are exerting ourselves on the tennis court. Give yourself about 10-14 days to get prepared before jumping out into the heat. Here are few tips to help you stay outdoors a little longer:
- Increase your activity level by doing a little more physical activity each day. This will help you gradually become adjusted to the hot temps. Then when the heat rises as well as the competition you will be ready.
- Increase your fluid intake. Drink lots of H2O and sports drinks that contain electrolytes. You will need to replace the sweat that leaves your body with water and sodium. Drink as often as you get a chance.
- “White and light” Make sure you wear light colored clothing so the heat doesn't become trapped between your clothing and skin. Anything white, light and breathable is an excellent choice.
When you get the chance find some shade whether it be under the awning or in the corner of the court. Try to get out of the sun as often as you can.
Finally, in your tennis bag there should be plenty of water, snacks, and a towel. Use the towel to dip in water and wrap around your neck during change overs.
