Election Day - Tuesday, November 2nd
|
Vote YES on Prop 21
For complete details on the CA State Park Initiative: http://www.yesforstateparks.com/
Prop. 21 will give California vehicles
free day-use admission to the state parks
in exchange for a new $18 vehicle license fee, which will be
specifically dedicated to state parks and wildlife conservation. The
surcharge will apply to most California vehicles, including motorcycles
and recreational vehicles, and will be collected by the Department of
Motor Vehicles as part of the annual vehicle license fee.
Much of this Prop 21 funding will be dedicated for trail work and
maintenance. A4B has been working directly with the leaders of CA
State Parks in Sacramento, and they have promised that if this
proposition passes, the backlog of trail proposal put forward by IMBA CA
and multiple clubs across CA will finally be able to progress. A4B
strongly supports Prop 21.
Marin Municipal Water District Board (4 seats)
A4B sent the 10
MMWD Board candidates a questionnaire inquiring about their position on
trail access for bikes on water district land. 5
candidates responded. A4B is
remaining neutral on races where we did not get a response. The Marin Conservation League (MCL), also sent out a
questionnaire to the candidates. Their questionnaire covered many key water district issues, it did include a question on recreational use (question #7). We have
included the candidates answers to the MCL questionnaire for your
edification on the broader issues.
Division I
-
Jack Gibson vs Peter Lacques
No response from either candidate - Neutral
MCL Questionnaire - Division 1
Division II
- Armando Quintero vs John O'Connor vs Glenn Dombeck
Armando
has been mountain biking in Marin since 1983. His daughter is on a NorCal team. He has worked as a National Park Ranger and served on the
Marin County Open Space commission (2003-2005). Armando is open and willing
to engage in the appropriate public process regarding the management of
MMWD public lands and their uses. He understands that our issues are
"public opinion issues - not just MMWD Director's opinions. He feels
trail adoption and maintenance is a step in cultivating public support.
We feel his tenure on the MMWD board thus far (one year) will be an
advantage in working with the board and dealing with our issues.
John
O'Connor - John has publicly stated on both the a4b questionnaire, and
the MCL questionnaire that he is in favor of increasing biking trails on
MMWD land. Though his position is favorable to our issue, we feel
Armando's experience on the board and his leadership in his community
gives Armando the advantage.
Glenn Dombeck - no response
A4B endorses Armando Quintero - Division 2
MCL Questionnaire - Division 2
Division III
-David Behar vs Frank Eggar
David Behar - incumbent - no response
Frank Eggar - Frank did respond, but we found his answers to be not particularly "bike friendly"
David Behar vs Frank Eggar Division 3 - Neutral
MCL Questionnaire - Division 3
Division IV
- Cynthia Koehler vs Larry Rose vs Sashi McEntee
Cynthia is
a
25-year professional environmental advocate. She is Environmental
Defense
Fund’s top California water attorney and was instrumental in the
enactment of statewide water conservation legislation last year. Before
joining EDF, she was the legal director for Save SF Bay. Cynthia is very
open and willing to meet and discuss the biking issues with a4b
representatives. She is reasonable, prides herself on being good at finding solutions and is open minded. Her water qualifications make her by far the strongest candidate.
Larry Rose -
Larry did respond to the A4B questionnaire, but we found his answers
contradicted his answers to the MCL questionnaire.
Sashi McEntee - no response
A4B endorses Cynthia Koehler - Division IV
MCL Quesionnaire - Division IV
