MCBC Biker Ball

Dear Subscriber,

A lot is happening right now regarding trail access on Marin County Open Space Lands. The recent Trail Workshop hosted by The Marin County Board of Supervisors, has given us a glimmer of hope. The Board of Supervisors needs to hear from you. So far about 3% of our membership has written letters, and we wonder why we have access to less than 3% of the trails on County Open Space. The main point we need to make, is we don't want this opportunity to get mired down in the Trails & Road management plan, we want action now. Write the County Supervisors today. Biketoberfest Raises $10,000 for Bicycle Advocacy

Biketoberfest Marin was a huge success! Thousands of people came out to enjoy a day of celebrating bicycles. There were so many amazing bikes on display, including a 23 lb Calfee carbon fiber tandem road bike, a Sycip bike with beer taps for shifters and a meticulously painted Retrotec single speed, with shiny White Industries crank arms and hubs. Of course with Rivendell, Ahrens, Soulcraft, Hunter and Steelman on display, there was plenty of eye-candy for everyone.

We had great music and and fantastic beer. 15 NorCal brewers supplying over 25 beers to sample. Lagunitas Brewing won the Audience Choice Award for Best Beer of Biketoberfest 2009.

A big thanks to all the bike builders, bike vendors, race teams, clubs and brewers that came out Saturday. Together we raised $10,000 for Access4Bikes and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition. Thank you, Tom Boss, MCBC and Heidi Adler, Access4bikes for producing the event, and another big thank you to the 100+ volunteers who came out to help - together you contributed over 500 hours of service. And greetings to all the new A4B members that we signed up at Biketoberfest!

Presidio Coastal Trail Improvements Proposed - Nov 17th, 4-7 pm

Open house November 17, 4-7 PM; or submit comments by email or mail .

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area, National Park Service staff is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) on a proposal to improve three (3) miles of the California Coastal Trail within The Presidio of San Francisco. They are currently soliciting public comments. The proposal would create an accessible, multi-use trail from the southwestern end of the Golden Gate Bridge to the Baker Beach area, create multi-use access to the Golden Gate Bridge from Merchant Road, and reconfigure beach access and visitor parking on the coastal bluffs.

The National Park Service is seeking your comments on the proposal. The Park Service will be hosting an open house on November 17th, 4-7 PM, at the GGNRA Headquarters in Fort Mason; and "walks and talks" will showcase the project.
