The Link Between Shareholder Value and Bold Decision-Making

A study recently released by Development Dimensions International (DDI) revealed that organizations that get leadership right – those that are spearheading innovation and operational efficiency – are 2.3 times more likely to outperform other companies financially.

Proving the correlation between boldness and shareholder value creation isn’t difficult. We recently analyzed our own client base. Our clients – mainly Fortune 500 marketing-intensive organizations – are, by definition, bold in their decision-making. These companies embrace change, opening their processes to new technologies, innovations and operations for greater efficiency, moving quickly through the inevitable short-term organizational discomfort that comes along with it.

Implications of Insolvency — Legal and Otherwise — for Directors

Despite the noblest of intentions, as corporate distress increases, so does litigation risk for directors, officer, or other party with fiduciary duties (collectively, “directors”). This is the chemistry of insolvency, driven by corporate law and human (litigious) nature.

It is incumbent that a board is capable of monitoring for insolvency and has an action plan on how to proceed when detected. Taking action when insolvency is discovered or thought inevitable is good for both a company and its directors. Indifference towards insolvency risks being forced to face tomorrow what few directors wish to face today.

It is difficult to believe in today’s digitally driven world that technology was not always a concern for boards and senior management teams. Many organizations added chief information officers to the executive team and made sure a board member had relevant knowledge or experience.

I believe reputation is on a similar track. Like technology, reputation is an issue that’s rapidly evolving, connected to all parts of an enterprise, and requires a dedicated leader who has the ear of upper management and the board.

New York Public Radio Addds Questlove, Two Others to Board of Trustees
The drummer for The Roots and house band of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon has been added to the New York Public Radio’s board of trustees. Questlove joins David Tisch and Marc Chamlin, who also joined New York Public Radio’s board.

Tisch is the managing partner of BoxGroup, and Chamlin is the chair of the television group at Loeb and Loeb, LLC.
