An analysis of data by FMQAI reveals information on 24,021 patients with valid CMS form 2728 data from Quarter 2 in 2005 to Quarter 1in 2009. The report indicates that nephrology care prior to ESRD is identified as a significant factor for improving AVF use.  In addition, the length or duration of nephrology care for patients with prior nephrology care is strongly significant to the AVF use outcome.

As the data reveal, primary care physicians should refer CKD Stages 3 and 4 patients to nephrologists for further care for better outcomes. To see the data, click on the image above.
