Following on from July, August continues to see skies all over the country light up with fireworks. Called hanabi, literally meaning fire flowers, fireworks are as symbolic of Japanese summer as the sakura are of spring. Pictured is the famous Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival which is usually held on the last Saturday of July.
