The Yokote Snow Festival in Akita Prefecture typically takes place in mid-February each year and features over 100 kamakura igloos and countless mini kamakura.

The last month of winter brings some of the coldest weather of the year and numerous festivals to warm the spirits, although many of these celebrations have taken a different form this year. Meanwhile, plum trees have started to bloom in places like Osaka Castle, heralding the coming of spring.  


It’s still unclear when we can travel internationally again, but in the meantime we will continue to bring you travel inspiration and updates and look forward to welcoming you to Japan when the time is right.

While peak sakura season is generally from late March to early April, those visiting in February can enjoy the early blooming Kawazu-zakura trees at places such as the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Beat the crowds at this lesser-known shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture. Ukiha Inari Shrine offers stunning views from its mountaintop location, while the vermillion torii gates lining the pathway on the way up make for a striking contrast against the verdant surrounds.
