Hi ,
Summer is in full swing in Japan, with the sounds of
furin (Japanese wind chimes) and crickets filling the air, and many a
kakigori (shaved iced dish) being eaten. It's typically a lively time of year full of festivals and outdoor activities, with people heading to the coast, lakes and rivers or alpine destinations to cool down and enjoy the great outdoors.
The long-awaited Olympic Games are also set to start on 23 July and run until 8 August. While the event will be held without any overseas or domestic spectators, the athletes are sure to appreciate your support.
In this month’s newsletter we take a look at culinary delights from a number of regions in Shizuoka, share some new virtual events for you to enjoy Japan now and bring you an insider’s guide to Yanagawa with our interview with a local
sendo-san (boatman) in Fukuoka.
