Now that winter is nearly over, the cherry blossoms have started to bloom and the countdown is on for them to sweep their way across the country, colouring the country in a wave of pink.
Kawazu's Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the earliest blooming cherry trees in eastern Japan. Kawazu-zakura have large petals that are a vivid pink, making them perfect for photos. This year the festival is from 10 February to 10 March.

Spring is nearly here, with the much-anticipated sakura (cherry blossoms) already blooming in Kawazu, Shizuoka. Most of the country will have to wait a little longer before being shrouded in fluffy pink blossoms, so keep an eye on the sakura forecasts if you're visiting soon.
