LE LYCEE FRANCAIS DE LOS ANGELES

Did You Know

That there are only 17 full instruction days left to the 2008 - 2009 school year?

Why is this important - besides providing a countdown to the sunny, carefree days of vacation?

This is one of most important times of the year and the time for all good students to remain diligent.  There are classes, quizzes, exams, and homework still going on until June 19th.  It is easy but academically dangerous to succumb to Spring Fever when some of the most serious work to be done is still ahead of us.

Some things to do to help your child:
  • Bring your child to school on time and bring him everyday.  Taking a little longer to get to school or taking the day off to do something other than school "because it's almost over" sends a message to children that it is alright to slack off.  It isn't.
  • For the younger children, look at their cahier de texte daily and make sure that they continue doing their homework, preparing their projects, and studying for exams.
  • Make sure your child complies with all the rules including uniform rules (except on sanctioned free dress days) and others.  Relaxing the rules is another strong but inappropriate message about the end of the year.
  • Talk to your child about what they are learning and what work they are doing at school using your attention to reinforce the fact that the school year seriously continues.
  • Even though there is more daylight time in the evening during June, make sure your children still get to bed early enough and get enough rest to be ready for school the next day.
June is like the last few miles in a marathon.  Everybody is tired, but to succeed everybody has to keep putting one foot in front of the other.  And we do it with a smile.  And that's not really so hard because we know vacation is just around the corner.
