RIBA FUTURE TRENDS SURVEY RESULTS FOR JANUARY 2011
The first Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) Future Trends Survey results for 2011 presents a mixed picture, with sustained confidence amongst architects working in the private housing sector but predicted reductions in commercial and public project sector workloads. The statistical analysis of the survey enables the RIBA to regularly report on two key confidence tracking indices relating to future workloads and staffing levels. For January 2011, the RIBA Future Trends Workload Index is +1 (compared to -1 in December 2010) and the RIBA Future Trends Staffing Index is -8 (compared to -9 in December 2010). More   Website

Stannah have completed the challenging installation of a scenic Passenger lift within in the Art Deco ticket hall of Cardiff Central Station. Stannah were the Principal Contractor on a 4-month project to install a lift for Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail to ensure easy access to Platform Zero. VEKA CEO HARTLEIF TO HEAD EUROPEAN INDUSTRY BODY

Andreas Hartleif, CEO of the worldwide VEKA Group has been unanimously elected President of the European PVC Window Profile and Related Building Products Association (EPPA). He plans to campaign for a more widespread acceptance of EPPA among industry representatives and get company heads more strongly involved in European decision-making. INSULATION THAT RECYCLES LOST HEAT

STEVENSWOOD JOINS NETWORK VEKA

Scots fabricator Stevenswood Trade Windows helped to swell the ranks of Network VEKA when it followed its own enrolment by introducing four of its own customers. The company, said to be Scotland’s biggest trade fabricator, may be introducing even more recruits in the coming months, according to MD Ron Hepburn who is still talking to a few other installers. “It’s another real benefit we can offer installers, especially in these tough times,” he said.

LEVOLUX KEEPS EXHIBITS COOL IN LIVERPOOL

The £72 million Museum of Liverpool, situated on the Mann Island site, alongside the historic Albert Dock, boasts some interesting design features, such as its distinctive limestone cladding and an installation of automated Roller Blinds by Levolux. EASILIFT’S NEW HIGH-TECH DOCK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CHOSEN BY TESCO

An innovative high-tech management reporting and safety system designed to prevent the premature departure of vehicles from the loading bay is set to be installed at the Goods In section of all Tesco distribution centres across the UK.  The supermarket is investing in the Dock Management System, which was jointly developed by UK firms Easilift Loading Systems and Traka, after it impressed during a pilot scheme at Tesco’s distribution centre in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
