ONGOING LOW MORTGAGE RATES CREATE AN 'INTEREST RATE-SPOILT' GENERATION
With the Bank of England base rate remaining at 0.5% for a record 21 months, tracking data from unbiased.co.uk reveals the emergence of a new 'rate-spoilt' generation. On average the fixed rate deal that homeowners would be prepared to fix at is now an unrealistic 3.3%. This has dropped significantly from an average 4.0% in January 2009. It appears the lengthy period of low interest rates has resulted in homeowners losing touch with mortgage reality, as best buys for three year fixed rate deals are currently around 5.1%3 - nearly 2% more than the average homeowner is currently willing to pay. EFFICIENT ENERGY RECOVERY DEVICE MAKES ITS UK DEBUT

Fläkt Woods has won the contract to provide the ventilation services for the new £200 million headquarters building of the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, utilising advanced energy recovery technology. The building will be fully sealed and will rely on mechanical air conditioning to provide fresh air and internal temperature control. Fläkt Woods is supplying 12 large EU air handling units complete with EQRS total enthalpy wheels each delivering 18.5m3/s of air into the buildings. More   Website
SELECTAGLAZE AT THE SUPREME COURT

Located on Parliament Square, opposite the Houses of Parliament is the UK’s first Supreme Court. Working on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the design team for the Supreme Court, led by Feilden and Mawson, developed refurbishment plans conserving the fabric of the building while creating a modern working environment. Main contractor Kier Wallis called upon Selectaglaze to help improve the building’s environmental credentials and security through designs and specifications sympathetic to the windows found in this Grade 2 listed building. BURLINGTON RECEIVES RECOGNITION AT NATURAL STONE AWARDS

Cumbria-based stone engineers, Burlington, received further recognition recently, when two of the projects that the company has been involved in were acclaimed at the 2010 National Stone Awards, held annually by the Stone Federation of Great Britain. Whilst the new flagship Energus training centre located in neighbouring Workington in Cumbria was highly commended, the use of Burlington’s stone involved in the interior revitalisation of St Dunstan’s Church in Surrey was commended.
