NEW RESEARCH FINDS LOW-COST, SUSTAINABLE DESIGN COULD HELP EASE HOUSING CRISIS
Traditional building methods must make room for more cost effective and sustainable designs if the UK’s growing housing crisis is to be alleviated, according to an independent research report, commissioned by RICS, into the future of UK housebuilding which is launched today. Currently, construction rates are around 80,000 new homes below the level required to meet population growth and tackle affordability and under supply issues. The research highlights a series of low-cost housing solutions which could significantly ease national shortages and ensure that affordable housing is more readily available to both local authorities and first-time buyers. NEW MASONRY HANGER HELPS MEET CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES

Simpson Strong Tie has designed an innovative new masonry hanger to assist in meeting the air leakage requirements, as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The SFLHI (Safety Fast Lite Hanger for I-Joists) is a unique single piece hanger designed to support timber joists from masonry walls without the need for masonry above the course of blockwork supporting the hanger.  This means that the potential for air leakage is reduced and time consuming and costly mortaring is avoided.
