SPENDING REVIEW MAKES OVERHAUL OF THE PROCUREMENT SYSTEM MORE ESSENTIAL THAN EVER
The Government today delivered its highly anticipated Comprehensive Spending Review, which outlined where cuts to the public sector budget will be made. An overall cut in capital spend of 29% was identified, with Government departments such as Department for Communities and Local Government taking a significant hit from their budget. Schools have seen an overall cut of 60% to their capital spend, and were allocated a sum of £15.8billion to improve the schools estate over four years; this will enable approximately 600 schools to be rebuilt or refurbished. Whilst the Government acknowledged the terrible waste caused by BSF, it is imperative that the process of procurement - the problem at its heart - is reformed. The mistakes of the past will be repeated if the entire system is not radically reformed. More   RIBA Website
