GOVERNMENT WINS APPEAL ON REGIONAL STRATEGIES
The Coalition Government's intended abolition of Regional Strategies can be taken into account when making planning decisions, the High Court agreed today (7th February 2011). The judgment - in a High Court case brought by CALA Homes - confirms that the intended scrapping of Regional Strategies is a 'material consideration' which can be considered by local planning authorities and planning inspectors when making decisions. The Government has long announced its intention to abolish the strategies through the Localism Bill, which received its Second Reading on 17 January 2011 in the House of Commons and is currently in Committee stage. MAY I TAKE YOUR ORDER?

‘May I take your order?’ is netting dividends for commercial kitchen company CHR Equipment Ltd. The Preston-based company is starting 2011 with one of its fullest order books in its 20 year history, and in the past month alone has added additional contracts to design, supply and install catering facilities for four schools as sub-contractor to Laing O’Rourke and Balfour Beaty, and the consultancy for a new 500 cover restaurant- all new customers. SELECTAGLAZE AT THE SUPREME COURT

Located on Parliament Square, opposite the Houses of Parliament is the UK’s first Supreme Court. Working on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the design team for the Supreme Court, led by Feilden and Mawson, developed refurbishment plans conserving the fabric of the building while creating a modern working environment. Main contractor Kier Wallis called upon Selectaglaze to help improve the building’s environmental credentials and security through designs and specifications sympathetic to the windows found in this Grade 2 listed building. SECURE AND SPEEDY S700 - FAAC S700 HYBRID SWING GATE OPERATOR INSTALLED


The FAAC S700 hybrid underground operator has been used to automate a set of trackless, bi-folding, wooden swing gates at a residential property in Windsor. Eagle Automation Systems specified the S700 due to its continuous duty and high speed capabilities. FAAC approved installer, Eagle Automation Systems, was commissioned to replace the customer’s existing manual, wooden swing gates with new bi-folding automated gates. An ideal space-saving solution, the S700-powered, bi-folding gates boast an opening/closing speed of just 10 seconds. More   Website

Hastings based electrical accessory manufacturer Focus SB has launched a new website that brings more user-friendly navigation, new project galleries and up-to-date stock checks every 30 minutes. DOW SUPPORTS SIMPLIFYING STANDARDS SEMINAR AT ECOBUILD

Dow Building Solutions is sponsoring the “Simplifying Standards, Guides and Tools” seminar stream at Ecobuild 2011. The seminar stream will include discussions on aligning Passivhaus construction principles with building codes and regulations.  It will also review changes that will be required in building standards in order to meet zero carbon homes targets, amongst other highly topical subjects.
