RICS COMMENT ON RHE JULY CIPS SURVEY
Commenting on the July CIPS Survey, Simon Rubinsohn, RICS chief economist said: “The survey is the first indicator of the mood in the construction sector in the wake of the Emergency Budget. According to the report, activity in the sector continued to grow in June at a similar pace to May. Of more significance, however, was the forward looking expectations series which while remaining in positive territory suffered its biggest drop in the survey's history.” More   Website

ACHIEVE COMPLIANCE WITH LESS EFFORT


The pressure to achieve a 25% reduction in a building’s carbon emissions is being lightened through an innovative approach to construction techniques pioneered by and already available from McVeigh Insulations. The company’s large format Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) technology even now yields a U value as low as 0.1W/m2K and airtightness of less than 5m3/hr/m2 @ 50Pa- some 50% better than the maximum criteria laid down under the new Approved Document L which comes into force in October.  More   Website
SECURED BY DESIGN ACCREDITATION FOR ALUMINIUM ENTRANCE DOORS


Birchdale Glass, independent glazing contractors, has been awarded a prestigious Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation for its aluminium communal heavy-duty entrance door with electromechanical locking system- the first of its type in the UK. Birchdale’s aluminium commercial entrance doors have two electromechanical locks and are tested by BSI to PAS 23 and PAS 24 (weather and security tests). The electromechanical locks are concealed within the door frame meaning they can be used on an open-in or open-out door. More   Website

PROMAT PROVIDES ROBUST FIRE PROTECTION SOLUTIONS
Promat has supplied fire protection solutions for the structural steel components of a major £675m retail and residential development in Wales. Over 150,000 m2 of Promat PROMATECT®-250 non-combustible board and Promat TD Board® mineral fibre board have been installed on the landmark St David's 2 extension project in the centre of Cardiff. Effective protection is crucial for structural steel which can begin to lose its design margin of safety for load-bearing at temperatures around 550°C. More   Website

BOLTON LEADS THE WAY IN VISITOR ACCESSIBILITY


As part of its redevelopment plan, Bolton Council is aiming to double its number of visitors to the town. A major step in achieving that aim has been the opening of the town’s new Topp Way four storey car park, which features state-of-the-art equipment- including an innovative ‘Changing places’ facility on the ground floor. The Bolton facility incorporates a Clos-o-Mat ‘wash and dry’ toilet, with the whole resource being designed, supplied and installed by Total Hygiene Ltd. More   Website
NEW COLOURS ADDED TO SUSTAINABLE RANGE


Wienerberger, the brick manufacturer, has launched two new products to expand its sustainable range. The Warnham Yellow Multi and the Bloomsbury Multi are both produced at the Warnham factory. Both new products compliment the existing range of Warnham bricks, increasing the choice of colours available from the one factory. Both bricks come with the added benefit of having a sustainable manufacturing process. The bricks are also made with a significant amount of recycled material content. More   Website
