GOVERNMENT TRAINING CUTS ARE DAMAGING PLUMBING INDUSTRY
The Government is cutting adult training courses by 25 per cent. The Government has recently announced that it is cutting training budgets for adult learners by 10 to 25 per cent, meaning that colleges may have to axe courses on subjects such as plumbing and building. The cuts are being made to plug a national £200 million funding hole, however, Richard Clarke, chairman of 1st Action plumbing believes these cuts will help the “rogue training” industry to thrive. Clarke comments, “The plumbing industry is only going to suffer from these training cuts as it means that companies offering fast track courses for large sums of money will be able to prey more easily on those looking to get into the industry.” More
RAINWATER SYSTEM SHORT-LISTED IN NATIONAL AWARDS


Swish Building Products pioneering low maintenance, ‘low CO2’, recycled PVC rainwater system has been short-listed in the National Recycling Awards 2010 Best Product category. PLANTSCAPE BIDS TO FOIL RAM RAIDS AND TERROR ATTACKS WITH A NEW SECURITY PLANTER


Plantscape has successfully tested a new version of its self-watering planter to the BSI PAS 68 standard after it withstood a horizontal impact test involving a 2.5 ton Toyota Hilux pickup travelling at 64km/h (40mph).  The test saw the surface-mounted planter lose its contents – namely compost planted up with brightly coloured primulas – on impact. It emerged from the experience slightly worse for wear, but, importantly, did not slide across the ground.  More

IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM, LONDON
Spacetherm Blanket was recently utilised within the Imperial War Museum, London. The A. Proctor Group of Blairgowrie supplied 20mm of their thin, highly efficient thermal insulation for installation on a barrel vault ceiling within the Musuem which opened at the Lambeth Road site in 1936. The Museum records the story of The Great War and has many valuable and irreplaceable artifacts. Spacetherm is a composite of fibrous matting and aerogels, the newest and most thermally efficient of all insulants. More

FLOWCRETE FLOORS INSTALLED AT SOCCER CITY FOR FIFA WORLD CUP


Specialist flooring manufacturer Flowcrete has carried out its largest ever project in South Africa – with three of its specialist flooring systems installed at the iconic Soccer City Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. Beating off stiff competition, Flowcrete secured the specification for 90,000 square metres of its flooring systems to be installed. Flowcrete South Africa managing director, Ian Harrison, said, “This is a major milestone in our history and we are very proud to be associated with this landmark project.” More
