THE CHURCHES CONSERVATION TRUST COMMENTS ON ENGLISH HERITAGE’S PLACES OF WORSHIP AT RISK REPORT
In response to English Heritage’s Places of Worship at Risk report, Crispin Truman, Chief Executive, The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity that cares for the largest number of historic churches in the UK no longer used for regular worship, responds: “The report is helpful in producing the first register of places of worship at risk. However, between 20 – 30 churches are closed each year in England alone. These buildings are of significant national and community importance”...  More.  Website.

AIRPORT SELECTS SPECIALIST CABLES FOR VOICE ALARMS


Manchester Airport is using high level fire performance cables from AEI Cables to ensure the performance of its critical voice alarm systems.  The overhaul of the life safety systems in Terminal One represented the first and most important phase of a £35million radical revamp of the site.  With 107 check-in desks, T1 is Manchester Airport’s biggest and busiest terminal and a powerful new 64-zone voice alarm using AEI’s Firetec Enhanced Cables was required to replace the existing system.  More.  Website.
FLOWCRETE FLOORS INSTALLED AT SOCCER CITY FOR FIFA WORLD CUP
Specialist flooring manufacturer Flowcrete has carried out its largest ever project in South Africa – with three of its specialist flooring systems installed at the iconic Soccer City Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. Beating off stiff competition, Flowcrete secured the specification for 90,000 square metres of its flooring systems to be installed. Flowcrete South Africa managing director, Ian Harrison, said, “This is a major milestone in our history and we are very proud to be associated with this landmark project.”  More.  Website.

BOLTON LEADS THE WAY IN VISITOR ACCESSIBILITY
As part of its redevelopment plan, Bolton Council is aiming to double its number of visitors to the town. The Towns new Topp Way, four storey car park features state-of-the-art equipment- including an innovative ‘Changing places’ facility* on the ground floor which goes beyond a traditional ‘disabled’ WC, providing more useable space within, plus a height adjustable basin and changing bench, and hoist. The facility further incorporates a Clos-o-Mat ‘wash and dry’ toilet.  More.  Website.



ALUMET WIN CONSTRUCTION NEWS QUALITY AWARD
Specialist contractor Alumet collected the Supply Partner Award at the recent Construction News Quality Awards. The award recognized their recent success, which includes gaining ISO 14001, Safe Contractor, Contractor Plus, CHAS and Achilles accreditations. It’s been a successful year for the company. They have recently launched a new division called Alumet Renewable Technologies (ART), which focuses on renewable systems such as photo-voltaics. They aim to become one of the UK’s largest specialist contractors in this field.  More.  Website.

JS AIR CURTAINS AT HOPE UNI



JS Air Curtains has supplied a Rotowind air curtain for a revolving door at the Hope University in Liverpool. The air curtain was installed by M&E Contractor, HE Simm, and is helping to maintain internal temperatures, keeping students and staff warm at the new Registry Building at the Hope Park Campus.  Although revolving doors offer some protection from the outside elements, they also act like a slow moving fan, dragging in cold air with every rotation.  More.  Website.
ELLIOTT FASTRACK COMPLETES ADVANCED NEW MEDICAL RESEARCH CENTRE


Elliott Fastrack has completed the new medical research centre at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI). The company used its offsite construction system to overcome all the challenges presented by this complex 26-week build programme. From the start, the new Icon Medical Trust Building was an extremely constrained site, requiring Elliott Fastrack to work alongside the live X-ray department at Manchester Royal Infirmary, as well as being on a ‘blue route’ for ambulances.  More.  Website.
STRATFORD STATION GETS SET FOR OLYMPICS


Gaysha Specialist Surfaces was approached by Network Rail to come up with a durable surface for the platforms and public areas, to modernise Stratford Railway Station, the main transport link to the epicentre of the 2012 Olympic Games.
Working around the clock to ensure minimum disruption, Gaysha laid 1,700 square metres of Ayton Tripave®, a highly durable, rapid cure and waterproof surfacing based on technically advanced methyl methacrylate resin technology.
