VERSATILITY AT ST WILFRID'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL

A major installation of VELFAC glazing has been specified for St Wilfrid's Catholic School, Crawley, by architects Curl la Tourelle. Purpose-built to house 930 pupils, the school centres on a striking, curved double-storey teaching block, wrapped around a courtyard, with a double ribbon run of VELFAC windows installed along its full length. Coloured aluminium sandwich panels add vitality and variety to the external glazing. VELFAC windows also feature in facilities such as the assembly hall and drama studio. More

ISG TURNS AROUND £12 MILLION CROYDON COLLEGE SCHEME

ISG has commenced work on a high profile £12 million project for Croydon College, to enhance facilities at its Fairfield campus. The project involves both new build and refurbishment elements, and sees ISG create a stunning new glazed rotunda structure, which will become the new entrance to the College. Designed by architects Nightingale Associates, the six-storey concrete and steel frame rotunda incorporates a double-height space below ground level, which will house drama studios and music practice rooms. CHUBB FIRE WORKS BEYOND THE NINE TO FIVE

Chubb Fire’s flexible working practices have been highlighted and praised by managers of the Howard Shopping Centre in Welwyn Garden City, following completion of a successful project to upgrade an existing fire safety installation. Chubb Fire won the contract to replace both the existing fire alarm and Public Address/Voice Alarm (PAVA) system, re-utilising as much of the existing fire alarm cabling network as possible to keep the project costs to a minimum and limit disruption to shops’ opening hours. ICONIC BRIDGE WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Stockton on Tees’s iconic Infinity Bridge is celebrating another prestigious award win.
The £15m double-arched structure, which straddles the River Tees and is a central component of the flagship Northshore scheme, was one of five winners at the regional heat of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Awards 2010. The win, announced at a ceremony in Newcastle last night, means Infinity Bridge will go forward to the national finals to be held later this year. More

ISG JACKSON MAKES HISTORY AT ENFIELD SCHOOL

Rachel Williams, a pupil from The Raglan Junior School in the London Borough of Enfield, has made history when she helped bury a time capsule within the new ornamental garden at her school. Rachel won a competition run by ISG Jackson Special Projects to generate ideas for objects that would be buried on site in a time capsule to commemorate the successful completion of a £2.25 million modernisation project at the Junior and Infant schools.
