BSF SAMPLE PROJECTS GET GO-AHEAD AND FURTHER CONFIRMATION GIVEN TO ACADEMIES
Education Secretary, Michael Gove, today announced the go-ahead for a series of new school projects. 33 local authority ‘sample’ school projects in 14 council regions will now proceed in Barking and Dagenham, Blackpool, Camden, Derby City, Ealing, Halton, Hartlepool, Hertfordshire, Lambeth, Oldham, Poole, Somerset, St Helens and Wandsworth. Another 119 academies – schools being given new sponsors to raise attainment for the most disadvantaged – are also intended to go ahead. Ministers have been working with sponsors to ensure they can move forward with their academies, each designed to raise standards in areas of particular need. The 44 academies at the most advanced stage in their capital planning with Partnerships for Schools will receive capital now. Capital allocations for the remaining 75 will be decided in the Spending Review. More   Website

ANDY IS THE INAUGURAL ‘PEOPLE’S CHOICE’ WINNER


Dickies innovative UK Worker of the Year programme has delivered the first recipient of its People’s Choice monthly award and it goes to mobile vehicle repair specialist Andy Rose. Throughout June people were able to vote for everyone who had been nominated for the overall UK Worker of the Year competition during the previous month and hundreds of votes were cast. Andy Rose emerged as the person with the most votes at the end of the voting period.

PASSIVENT TAKES THE STRESS OUT OF NEW REGULATIONS
Ahead of the amended criteria for ventilation in dwellings coming into force in October, Passivent is already coming to the aid of specifiers and installers, with a raft of new measures aimed at simplifying the compliance process. FLAG-SOPREMA GREEN ROOFS AT ADDENBROOKE’S


Use of Flag-Soprema’s Optigreen 'Economy' green roofs on Sanctuary Housing Association’s £20 million key worker accommodation blocks at Addenbrooke’s Hospital shows how design is being influenced by biodiversity. Stepped upper storeys on 4 buildings have low maintenance sedum planting to assist with rainwater retention and provide a 600m2 roof area as part of a balanced eco-system. Completion of the Addenbrooke’s project coincides with Flag-Soprema becoming a 'Premium Sponsor' of the World Green Roof Congress in London on 15th and 16th September.
