OFFICE FOR NATIONAL STATISTICS - NEW ORDERS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, 3RD QUARTER 2010
This bulletin shows new orders in the construction industry for the third quarter of 2010 in Great Britain.

Headline figures are:
• the total volume (in £m) of all new construction orders in the third quarter of 2010 fell by 4 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2010
• the total volume of new construction orders fell by 14 per cent compared with the same period in 2009
• The volume of public non-housing excluding infrastructure orders in the third quarter of 2010 fell by 24 per cent compared with the previous quarter. It fell by 37 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier. This was the lowest volume of new orders since the fourth quarter of 2007.

All new orders figures quoted are seasonally adjusted and in constant (2005) prices.

ASGARD BIOMASS SUPPLIES BESPOKE PELLET STORE SOLUTION

Asgard Biomass has designed and engineered a pellet store to integrate with a new high efficiency biomass heating system at St James Primary School, in Elstead, Surrey. The £19,700 new pellet silo is an important part of a £46,000 scheme, jointly funded by EDF Energy’s Green Fund and the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, to enable the school to be heated sustainably by wood pellets, which will be sourced from local sawmills and heathland restoration projects. SELECTAGLAZE KEEPS THE FAITHFUL WARM
St. Paul’s Church in Hatfield Road, St. Albans, which celebrates its centenary this year, has, recently undergone a major modernisation programme, to the church, and it’s adjacent halls. Fourteen complex windows were treated with a total of 46 secondary glazed units, mostly curved hinged or fixed units to match the existing window design. These also provide significant levels of noise insulation, an important consideration to limit the impact of the hall on local residents. The windows were installed by Selectaglaze. More. Website.

NUAIRE’S PRODUCT CHOSEN FOR BUILDING SCHOOLS FOR THE FUTURE INITIATIVE
Nuaire has been contracted to provide the ventilation systems for a new initiative which will upgrade and refurbish Manchester City Council’s secondary school buildings. The project, originally commissioned under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative, aims to deliver high quality facilities and integrated technology to Manchester schools.  The Nuaire product which will be used for the project, the XBOXER 55, has been developed from one of its existing ventilation systems and is specially designed for schools. ELTA FANS SUPPLY VENTILATION UNITS FOR EXCLUSIVE, MAN-MADE, ‘ARABIAN RIVIERA’

Elta Fans has supplied a large number of ventilation units to a lavish, secure and exclusive retreat with a Riviera-style community, situated off the eastern shore of Qatar.  A total of 159 units was supplied to The Pearl-Qatar, a phased, mixed-use development comprising villas, town homes, apartments, penthouses, hotels, marinas, retail outlets and restaurants. Elta Fans Limited and sister company Fastlane Ventilation Equipment supplied the fans to contractor Power Line Engineering, Qatar, for use in various public areas. More. Website.
INGERSOLL RAND CURES HOSPITAL ACCESS DILEMMA

Dor-O-Matic automatic doors, from Ingersoll Rand, have been installed as part of a comprehensive refurbishment at the South Tyneside District Hospital in South Shields. To meet the detailed specification, Dor-O-Matic Swing and Sliding doors were installed on the Harton Wing entrance to create an inviting hotel-feel, improving both the aesthetics of the façade and access to the building. The Dor-O-Matic Sliding door is a reliable and versatile solution, particularly suitable for applications where extra wide openings are needed to facilitate the movement of large items. More.
