RICS welcomes Government Tax Increment Financing (TIF) announcement and urges them to push forward quickly with legislation http://bit.ly/coIF2E.

In response to the announcement RICS Director of External Affairs Mark Goodwin commented:

"With the expected cuts in central government capital spending it is essential that other methods are put in place to help fund infrastructure spending. Allowing local authorities to borrow on the basis of future business rates revenue is an important way of doing this and provides additional access to finance. Tax Increment Financing schemes of this type have been widely used in the USA and have proved successful in providing infrastructure and supporting regeneration.”
