HUNTER DOUGLAS STRIKES GOLD


Hunter Douglas Sun Control & Façades has demonstrated its advanced roll-forming technology with these golden towers that adorn the new Nottingham Contemporary art gallery.  The new landmark building, in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, was designed by architects Caruso St John.  Staffordshire-based Hunter Douglas supplied 800m² of its market-leading MPF (multiple panel façade) single-skin rainscreen cladding for the £11m project.   The gold anodised aluminium panels, were rolled to create bespoke, convex curves on the roof monitors.  More

ABB UNIVERSITY TELFORD GETS ADDED INTELLIGENCE WITH NEW BUILDING CONTROL SYSTEM

The ABB University in Telford is benefiting from improved building control, significant energy cost reductions and improved functionality following the installation of ABB’s i-bus® KNX intelligent building control equipment. The technology, which has been fitted into three classrooms and two reception areas, was installed by EnTech Ltd.  The aim was to address energy efficiency and improve the building’s overall performance whilst acting as a showcase for the benefits of ABB’s intelligent building control technology.    More

Flowcrete’s Isocrete Acoustic K combines noise-reduction efficiency with the time-proven performance of Isocrete screeds.  The system comprises an acoustic resilient layer and screed and is installed as a complete system on site by just one trained applicator.  Acoustic K can also be used in conjunction with Flowcrete’s Isowarm underfloor heating system to produce a quiet, warm environment without the need for radiators.  Acoustic K offers a reduced screed thickness and enables an early installation of sensitive finishes.

DORTEK TARGETS INFECTION CONTROL WITH NEW HERMETICALLY SEALED, GLASS SLIDING DOOR


Dortek has introduced a new door which is designed to help hospitals and clinics fight the spread of infection. Originally designed for use on operating theatres, the new fully glazed MF5 hermetically sealed sliding door is particularly suitable for isolation wards, Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and Critical Care Units (CCUs). The door blade is a strong 2 x 6mm thick hermetically sealed glass panel with flush anodized aluminium profiles to provide a smooth flat surface. More

JAMES JONES HELPS DELIVER WORLD CLASS BURNS MUSEUM PROJECT


Leading UK engineered timber producers, James Jones & Sons, Timber Systems Division Ltd, are supplying JJI-Joists and BJ-Beams to the world class Robert Burns Birthplace Museum project, currently underway at the Scottish bard’s birthplace in Alloway, Ayrshire.  The UK manufactured, FSC certified, JJI-Joists and the BJ-Beams will be used throughout the ground and first floors and in the roof structure of the new Museum. 5668 l/m JJIs will be used and 170 l/m BJ- Beams.

NEW 'TWILIGHT ZONE' TO FEATURE A SPECTACULAR BRUCE MUNRO INSTALLATION


The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) has commissioned lighting designer and installation artist Bruce Munro to create an installation for a new space at ZSL London Zoo. Munro’s piece will be installed in a staircase of the Clore Rainforest Building. The staircase will become a third space, joining the rainforest area above to the downstairs Nightlife area below, thus forming one unified visitor destination. Munro’s ‘Twilight Shower’ installation is a magical snaking shower of light.
