| MILL CONVERSION MAXIMISES ENERGY EFFICIENCY |
The owner of a property in Halifax specified a heat recovery MVHR system from ADM to maximise the energy efficiency of their newly refurbished mill conversion. The 18th Century former weavers’ mill was refurbished by Halifax-based BAG Builders using Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF). Working with the developer, ADM Systems suggested making a feature of the ducting by supplying it in stainless steel material. This proved to be an excellent solution, giving the old mill a contemporary new look.

Assael Architecture has secured planning consent on behalf of Hausman Hughes for a £3.6 million residential scheme at Clarence Lane. The site is comprised of a dilapidated former private tennis court, which is flanked by a tall brick wall to the north and an overgrown wooded landscape to the south. The new development will consist of two new buildings ranging from three to four storeys, which will provide a total of 20 new apartments.

| CARNEGO-LED CONSORTIUM TO PHASE IN LOW CARBON HOUSING |
Carnego Systems and partners have won funding from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) for Phase Two of the £17m ‘Retrofit for the Future’ programme. This programme will demonstrate effective techniques to achieve major savings in energy and carbon emissions in the social housing stock across the UK. Understanding and implementing best practice retrofitting is key to meeting the government’s CO2 reduction target of 80% by 2050. The new funding follows a successful Phase One feasibility study.

| AIRCRETE IS THE CHOICE FOR COST-EFFECTIVE BUILDING |
H+H is using two detailed cost-comparison exercises to prove that price need never be a barrier to specifying aircrete for house building. In a recent public sector housing development Wates Living Space wanted to use aircrete, but was concerned expenditure could rise as a result. A detailed cost comparison showed that, contrary to expectations, a £20,000 saving could be made using aircrete with the H+H Rå Build method of construction, compared with an equivalent timber frame approach.
