THE REPAIR OF OLD BUILDINGS: SPAB’S UNIQUE WEEK FOR CONSERVATION AND BUILDING PROFESSIONALS
|
Described by Dame Liz Forgan, former chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund, as “the best course” she’d been on, SPAB’s classic week-long programme of lectures and visits: ‘The Repair of Old Buildings’ provides a mixture of expert seminars and presentations on subjects such as conservation philosophy, stonework, lime, historic structures and timber repairs. The course, which also includes invaluable site visits to conservation work in progress, runs twice in 2011- in May (16 – 21) and September/October (26 – 1). This unique course has already trained thousands of the country’s building professionals in the repair and renovation of old buildings. With the downturn in the construction of new buildings many architects and other sector professionals are turning to work on existing buildings. THE NATIONAL CHIMNEY ACADEMY IS NOW OPEN!
|
Specflue, providers of stove and flue products have opened Britain’s biggest, dedicated HETAS training facility at their head office in Sudbury, Suffolk. The centre will provide those wishing to become HETAS engineers with the appropriate qualifications and installation techniques to safely install wood burning stoves, fit flue systems and carry out appropriate maintenance. 1930S HOUSE GETS A NEW ‘WEATHERED-LOOK’ ROOF USING MARLEY ETERNIT’S CLAY PLAIN TILES
|
An extensive re-roofing project on a detached 1930s West Midlands house has recently been completed using more than 13,000 of Marley Eternit’s new Fired Sienna Hawkins clay plain tiles. The property had recently been refurbished by owner Rob Langston. Rob commented: “I chose Marley Eternit’s Fired Sienna Hawkins clay plain tile to replace the old roof tiles as it looks very similar to the original roofing and is in keeping with the other period features in the building.” More Website

A former printworks on Amelia Street in Southwark has been developed by the Homes and Communities Agency with innovative housing developer First Base under the London Wide Initiative. 1090 Urban Edge door sets (from Leaderflush Shapland) were specified for the project constructed with EnduraCor – an exclusive engineered performance core whose durability and stability make it especially suitable for harsh environments.
