Dunbarton nursery scoops national education award
A HEAD teacher burst into tears the moment she heard her
Dumbarton nursery had won a national education award. Brucehill Nursery
had earned the Literacy and Numeracy Across Learning Award at the
Scottish Education Awards ceremony last month
In close on 50 years, Scotland's sole Jewish primary school,
Calderwood Lodge, has been at heart of Glasgow Jewry, educating most of
its children.
Now, with new head Vanessa Thomson at the helm, the state-aided
school is searching for fresh ways of promoting itself to both Jewish
and non-Jewish parents. And like Jewish schools in other declining
communities, it faces the dilemma of how best to preserve a Jewish ethos
when numbers fall.

Hamilton College S6 cricket team recorded a fantastic result in the

Wellington School Girl DofE Ambassadors for Scotland
Gillian Howie, who recently completed her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award,
has been appointed as a DofE Ambassador in Scotland for the next 3
years.

Ban on school dance helicopter drop
A parent was banned from flying a child to an end-of-term primary school
dance in a helicopter, it was revealed.
The local authority rejected
the request made earlier this week on health and safety grounds. The
parent wanted to fly the 11-year-old to the ceilidh at Mearns Primary
School in upmarket Glasgow suburb Newton Mearns. Read full story
